Southern Railway General Manager John Thomas on Tuesday administered the integrity pledge to its officers and staff to mark the commencement of Vigilance Awareness Week with the theme “Independent India@75: Self Reliance with Integrity”, says a press release.
The week-long celebration commenced today and will end on November 1.

The objective of the Vigilance Awareness Week is to bring about public awareness, amongst railway employees, rail users and general public through participative and pro-active approach, regarding existence, causes and gravity of and the threat posed by corruption, the statement added.
Inaugurating the Vigilance Awareness Week at Southern Railway Headquarters, John Thomas stressed on the leveraging of technology in reducing the procedural lapses in day to day working and highlighted the implementation of different digital platforms like HRMS (Human Resource Management System) and HIMS (Hospital Information Management System) etc for efficient functioning of organisations.
Vashishta Johri, former General Manager of Southern Railway and presently the CEO of Centre for Railway Research, IIT, Chennai, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Principal Heads of Departments, other Officers and staff of Southern Railway Headquarters and the 6 Divisions participated in the inaugural function through Video Conferencing. The Chief Guest in his keynote shared his experiences and highlighted the significance of decision-making and risks at managerial level.
P Mahesh, Senior Deputy General Manager & Chief Vigilance Officer, Southern Railway welcomed the gathering.
Integrity Bulletin 2021 was released by Vashista Johri, Chief Guest & former General Manager and the copies were received by John Thomas and P Mahesh.
A short film on anti-corruption titled ‘MERCY’ produced by the Vigilance Organisation of Southern Railway and enacted by the officials of the department was also released by the Chief Guest. Employees of Southern Railway were encouraged to participate in an e-quiz competition as part of Vigilance Awareness Week. Link to e-Integrity pledge was also shared in Southern Railway website and was widely shared among employees through WhatsApp groups and the social media.
A host of activities are being planned by Southern Railway, both at the headquarters and the Divisions, in connection with Vigilance awareness week.
