During the rally at Uppalam Helipad Ground, Vijay stressed that Puducherry’s long-standing demand for statehood has been ignored by the central government despite 16 assembly resolutions passed over the years. He contrasted the governance of the local government under N. Rangasamy with what he described as the “dynasty politics and venal rule” of the DMK in Tamil Nadu, appealing to voters to trust TVK instead.

Given the fallout from a previous rally in Karur — which ended in tragedy — authorities imposed strict restrictions for today’s event. Attendance was capped at 5,000; entry required QR-code passes; and heavy police deployment, CCTV surveillance and tight crowd-control protocols were laid down.
Nevertheless, a tense moment emerged when police detained a man carrying a licensed handgun attempting to enter the venue. The incident rekindled memories of the Karur stampede, intensifying scrutiny over TVK’s rally management practices.
