Fresh bout of stone pelting was reported in Maujpur and Brahmpuri area in Delhi on Tuesday morning, even as the death toll from Monday’s violence rose to seven. A head constable was among the people killed and at least 50 others, including several paramilitary and Delhi Police personnel, were injured on Monday as violence flared up once again over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Northeast Delhi.
Increased security can be seen at Maujpura, in Northeast Delhi, where violence had erupted between groups supporting and opposing the CAA,
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be holding a meeting at 12 noon today with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and representatives of political parties.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he is “very worried” about the prevailing situation in certain parts of Delhi after he called an urgent meeting of all party MLAs of the violence-hit areas. “Am meeting all MLAs (of all parties) of affected areas along wid senior officials in a while,” Kejriwal added. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 10.30 am.

Javed Akhtar expressed concern
Bollywood bigwig Javed Akhtar has condemned the violence which erupted between various groups supporting and opposing CAA in Northeast Delhi yesterday.”An atmosphere is being created to convince an average Delhiite that it is all because of the anti CAA protest and in a few days the Delhi Police will go for ‘the final solution’,” he said in a tweet.
Five of Delhi Metro’s Pink Line remained closed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in the wake of the violence in northeast Delhi areas. Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar remain closed and trains are being terminated at the Welcome Metro Station.
Situation under control: Police Commissioner
The Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnayak has said that the situation in Northeast Delhi has come under control now. Violence had erupted in various Northeast Delhi areas yesterday, with fresh-stone pelting incidents reported today, between supporters and opponents of CAA. He said that both parties are now attempting to understand the situation, while sufficient reinforcement has been deployed at troubled spots. All senior officials are supervising law and order, he said.
The sit-in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Law in the Jafrabad-Seelampur area, which has been going on for past six weeks is continuing today morning, even in the wake of the violence that erupted yesterday between supporters and opponents of the CAA. Appeals of peace and calm have been made by the protesters.
