Gujarat-based start-up ‘Vision’ on Tuesday announced the launch of an innovative wallet that will help the visually impaired to find the value of the currency as well as the currency’s authenticity whether it is original or duplicate.
Commenting about this innovation, Hasin Vaidya, Founder and Product Designer at Vision, said, “We have designed this wallet especially to fulfill the needs of the visually-impaired. Many a times they face fraudulent cash transactions, such as underpayment or duplicate currency issues. With a view to resolving this issue permanently and enabling the visually-impaired to conduct financial transactions with confidence, which I believe will also play an important role in reducing crime.”
Speaking with navjeevanexpress.com, socio-conscious entrepreneur Vaidya said, “I am an alumnus of city-based Karnavati University’s Product Design Department. It took me two years to develop this advanced wallet. The entire cost of Rs 8 lakh for research and development of this wallet was borne by the Start-Up India, an initiative of the Central government and the Gujarat Government.”
Designed using electronic parts and sensors, the wallet will alert its users about the currency. Its estimated cost is around Rs. 2,000. The wallet, designed for the visually impaired, can also be purchased directly from partner NGOs, including the Blind Friends Society, as well as the company.
Hasin Vaidya has also been helping a visually-impaired couple Ashwinbhai and Gitaben Thakkar in their snack business. He added, “I want to help the couple grow their business. Every week I take them to different societies in Ahmedabad and organize snack selling camps. This is our second initiative to make visually-impaired people to become self-reliant. ”
About 1,100 wallets will be distributed free of cost to visually-impaired people at an to be held at Pandit Deen Dayal Hall in Ahmedabad on September 17.
According to the organisers, India has over 30 lakh visually-impaired people out of which Gujarat has over 1 lakh.
