In a significant initiative towards empowering differently-abled individuals, Wagh Bakri Tea Group, a trusted name in the tea industry for over 132 years, launched a pioneering livelihood project at the Blind People’s Association (BPA) in Ahmedabad on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Tuesday.

As part of the project, 25 beneficiaries from Ahmedabad, Kheda and Mahisagar districts received movable small shops and related kits to enhance their livelihood. The beneficiaries were trained to run their businesses effectively. Moreover, BPA will provide them with hand-holding support for the next three years to ensure their success.

Wagh Bakri Tea Group’s senior management, including Executive Director Paras Desai, Directors Vidisha Desai, Malvi Desai and Priyam Parikh, CEO Sanjay Singal, and BPA Managing Trustee Dr. Bhushan Punani, and other esteemed guests were present at the launch of the initiative.

Commenting on the initiative, Sanjay Singal, CEO of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, said, “Wagh Bakri Tea Group has always strived to create meaningful change in society and this project resonates deeply with our commitment to social responsibility. By supporting differently-abled individuals with the resources and training to become self-reliant, we aim to help them lead a life of dignity and purpose. We are confident this initiative will go a long way in empowering the differently-abled. We are thankful to BPA for their support in this endeavour.”

Going forward, Wagh Bakri Tea Group will support 100 beneficiaries across the state under the project, which aims to provide self-employment opportunities to the differently-abled and support and empower them to become ‘Atmanirbhar’ (self-reliant). Wagh Bakri Foundation, the charitable arm of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, has extended financial support of Rs. 12 lakh for the initiative.

The BPA has been empowering the visually impaired and people with other disabilities by providing them with education, counselling, rehabilitation and employment opportunities since 1954. The association, one of the largest of its kind in Asia, is focused on ensuring inclusion of people with disabilities in the mainstream.
