What better way to celebrate the spirit of Independence than to put the wheels in motion? The Sabarmati riverfront turned into a vibrant fitness arena on Sunday as personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces swapped routine duty for pedal power, music and camaraderie, joining the 86th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle in Ahmedabad.
With the Independence Day as its theme, the weekly fitness movement brought together enthusiastic personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), combining exercise, cycling and recreational activities in a spirited morning programme.
The event began with an energetic physical training and Zumba session, setting the tempo for a morning devoted to fitness and fellowship. The participants then added a dash of celebration to the workout, dancing to the beats of Bhangra numbers before taking to their bicycles.
From Zumba beats to Sabarmati pedals
The uniformed participants subsequently cycled for around 3 km along the Sabarmati riverfront, transforming the picturesque stretch into a moving symbol of fitness and national spirit.
CISF personnel posted at Ahmedabad’s Space Applications Centre (SAC), Group Headquarters, ONGC and the airport participated in the programme, while personnel from the CRPF and BSF Group Centres at Chiloda also joined the cycling drive.
The combination of physical training, Zumba and cycling gave the Independence Day-themed edition a distinctly energetic character, while bringing personnel from different Central Police Forces together beyond their regular operational duties.
Fitness meets fun
The programme did not end with the cycling ride. A fun-filled game zone added a recreational dimension, with participants competing and bonding over volleyball, carrom, chess and badminton.
The initiative thus blended cardiovascular exercise with traditional games and team activities, reinforcing the message that fitness can be both purposeful and enjoyable.

A nationwide Sunday movement
Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation and MY Bharat.
The cycling initiative is conducted simultaneously across States and Union Territories, including at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs) and Khelo India Centres (KICs).
More than 6,000 NAMO Fit India Clubs also organise the cycling initiative nationwide every week, extending the fitness movement deep into communities.
The Ahmedabad edition added a special Independence Day flavour to that nationwide campaign, with the men and women in uniform demonstrating that fitness, fellowship and patriotism can travel on the same wheels.
