In the vibrant run-up to Uttarayan, the Rotary Club of Bhavnagar Vibrant turned the festival into a lesson in joy, generosity and hope by organising a heart-warming community service initiative at Shree Melakdi Primary School.
With laughter echoing across the school courtyard, 72 students received thoughtfully curated Uttarayan gift kits comprising five colourful kites, firki, manja, ladoos and pipdi, transforming an ordinary school day into a celebration of childhood delight and festive wonder.
As the children clutched their kites and sweets, their excitement was unmistakable—eyes sparkling with anticipation of kite-filled skies and carefree festival moments. The initiative beautifully captured the essence of Uttarayan: sharing happiness and lifting spirits.
“The Joy of Giving Is the Real Festival”
Speaking on the occasion, Club President Namrita Chadha summed up the Rotary spirit behind the initiative, saying, “Uttarayan teaches us that happiness grows when shared. Seeing these children smile reminds us that the true joy of giving lies in touching young lives and making festivals meaningful for everyone.”
The project was generously sponsored by Kumuduni Rana and Dipal Virani, whose support ensured that every child could celebrate the festival with dignity and joy, regardless of background.

Little Voices, Big Happiness
The festive cheer was best reflected in the children’s own words. A beaming student shared,
“This is my first new kite for Uttarayan. I will fly it with my friends and think of today.”
Another child added excitedly,
“We got sweets and kites together. It feels like a real festival at school.”
School Applauds Rotary’s Gesture
The school principal appreciated the thoughtful outreach, noting that such moments leave a lasting impact beyond the festival.

“These gestures nurture confidence and happiness in children. When society comes together for them, it inspires them to dream bigger,” the principal said.
Service Above Self in Action
The event was attended by Club Secretary Sunita Shah and members Kashmira Kothari, Krishna Shah and Komal Shah, whose presence added warmth and encouragement to the young beneficiaries.
More than a festive distribution, the initiative stood as a reminder that Uttarayan is not just about kites in the sky, but also about lifting hearts on the ground—a reflection of Rotary’s enduring ethos of Service Above Self.
