Held at the Library Reading Room of the Ashram Road campus, the exhibition brought together students from six academic institutions under the Navgujarat umbrella, creating a vibrant intellectual space dedicated to celebrating Indian languages, culture, and literary traditions.
Participating institutions included Prin MC Shah Commerce College, CC Sheth Commerce College, PG Centre of CC Sheth College of Commerce, Smt SR Mehta Arts College, Daulatbhai Trivedi Law College, and Navgujarat College of Computer Applications.
A Cultural Awakening Through Native Language Literature
The exhibition showcased an expansive and thoughtfully curated collection of books spanning novels, biographies, poetry, history, cultural studies, and competitive examination resources in Gujarati, Hindi, and other Indian languages.
The initiative aimed to encourage students to look beyond academic textbooks and embrace literature in their mother tongues—strengthening cultural awareness, intellectual depth, and emotional connection with India’s literary heritage.
Library faculty actively engaged with students, recommending timeless works by celebrated authors and encouraging them to cultivate sustained reading habits. The exhibition generated enthusiastic participation, with many students issuing books and sharing their favourite literary discoveries.
Principals Emphasise Urgent Need to Preserve Linguistic Identity
Academic leaders across Navgujarat institutions highlighted the deeper significance of the initiative.
The Principal of Prin MC Shah Commerce College said:
“Matrubhasha Diwas is not just a symbolic observance but a reminder of our responsibility to preserve and promote our native languages. Such exhibitions help students reconnect with their cultural roots and develop intellectual sensitivity through literature.”
The Principal of CC Sheth Commerce College added:
“Reading in one’s mother tongue enhances comprehension, creativity, and emotional intelligence. This exhibition has successfully inspired students to appreciate the richness of Indian language literature.”
The Principal of Smt SR Mehta Arts College emphasised the cultural dimension:
“Language is the foundation of identity and heritage. Encouraging students to read regional literature strengthens their cultural awareness and nurtures a deeper understanding of society.”
The Principal of Daulatbhai Trivedi Law College highlighted its educational value:
“For students, especially in professional disciplines, reading in native languages sharpens analytical thinking and broadens perspectives. This initiative contributes significantly to holistic education.”
The Principal of Navgujarat College of Computer Applications underscored its relevance in the digital age:

Building Readers, Preserving Civilisation
The exhibition evolved into more than a display of books—it became a platform for dialogue, discovery, and cultural reaffirmation. Students and faculty engaged in meaningful conversations about literature, shared reading experiences, and explored works that reflect India’s civilisational depth.
By promoting reading in Indian languages, the initiative serves as a crucial step in preserving linguistic diversity while nurturing informed, culturally grounded, and intellectually enriched future citizens.
