The spirit of Uttarayan found a vibrant expression as the Department of Posts organised “Kite Festival–2026” in Ahmedabad, transforming the city’s skyline into a colourful showcase of communication and community. Held at the V9 Cricket Ground near Science City, the event brought together postal employees, their families, postmen, Gramin Dak Sevaks and schoolchildren in a joyful celebration rooted in tradition.

The festival drew inspiration from the globally renowned International Kite Festival of Gujarat, which attracts enthusiasts from across India and abroad. Adding a unique postal flavour, participants flew specially designed kites depicting letter boxes, postage stamps, mail vans, Speed Post and Parcel services, Post Office Savings Bank, Postal Life Insurance, Rural Postal Life Insurance and India Post Payments Bank, symbolically carrying the message of India Post’s reach and relevance high into the sky.
The event was inaugurated by Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region, along with Chirag Mehta, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Ahmedabad City Division.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav said, “Just as Uttarayan symbolizes new energy and new beginnings, the Department of Posts carries the light of trust, service and communication to every household.” He added that traditional festivals marking the sun’s northward journey convey messages of positive change, respect for hard work and gratitude towards nature. Extending greetings on the occasions of Uttarayan, Makar Sankranti, Pongal and Magh Bihu, he expressed hope that the festivities would bring “happiness, prosperity, good health and renewed energy into everyone’s lives, while strengthening social unity and cultural harmony.”
The celebration saw enthusiastic participation from employees, family members and numerous schoolchildren, who not only enjoyed kite flying but also exchanged festive greetings and shared traditional jaggery and sesame delicacies, enhancing the warmth of the occasion.
Several officers and staff members from the Ahmedabad City postal administration were present, adding to the collective spirit of celebration and outreach that defined the event.
