- A Landmark Moment in India’s Spatial Audio Journey
Instead of sound coming from fixed left and right channels, Dolby Atmos surrounds the listener—placing vocals, instruments, and effects above, around, and in motion. The result is music that feels alive, layered, and cinematic, faithfully reflecting the artist’s creative intent. Whether on smartphones, headphones, soundbars, home theatres, or inside cars, Dolby Atmos Music delivers consistent immersion across devices.
The format is already available on leading streaming platforms such as Gaana and plays seamlessly on a growing ecosystem of Dolby-enabled devices.
Chennai Hosts an Immersive Theatre-to-Car Showcase
Taking immersive audio storytelling to the next level, Dolby, in collaboration with Universal Music Group and Gaana, hosted an exclusive media showcase in Chennai on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, at Tagore Film Centre, NFDC. The event brought together music, cinema, and mobility, demonstrating how Dolby Atmos Music effortlessly transitions from the studio to the big screen—and into the car.
At the heart of the experience was an immersive preview of ‘Yellakka’, composed and produced by acclaimed music director Dharan Kumar and mixed in Dolby Atmos. Media attendees first experienced the track in a cinema environment, where the spatial mix unfolded with dramatic clarity and depth.
The journey then continued beyond the theatre—into the real world.
From Big Screen to Open Road
Following the cinema playback, participants experienced a live in-car demonstration inside the Mahindra XUV 3XO, showcasing how Dolby Atmos transforms everyday driving into a concert-like, cinematic listening experience. The seamless transition from theatre acoustics to a moving vehicle underscored Dolby Atmos’ ability to deliver consistent, high-impact sound—anywhere, anytime.
Powering the Immersive Audio Ecosystem
Universal Music Group continues to champion innovative formats that allow artists to express their creative vision without compromise, while Gaana plays a pivotal role in bringing Dolby Atmos Music to millions of listeners across India. Together, they are accelerating the adoption of spatial audio, making immersive music experiences mainstream.
Mahindra, meanwhile, has redefined in-car entertainment by becoming the first global OEM to introduce Dolby Atmos across all price points. With the XUV 3XO RevX A, Mahindra has extended Dolby Atmos playback even to non-branded audio systems, reinforcing the idea that true innovation lies in experience-led design, not just premium hardware.
Inside the Experience Flow
The curated showcase unfolded as a multi-sensory journey:
- An immersive Dolby Atmos cinema playback of Yellakka
- A media interaction with Dharan Kumar, alongside representatives from Universal Music Group, Gaana, and Dolby, discussing the creative and technical evolution of immersive music
- A curated Q&A session exploring how Dolby Atmos is reshaping music creation, distribution, and listener engagement
- A live in-car demo inside the Mahindra XUV 3XO, highlighting Dolby Atmos’ seamless transition from theatre to car
By collapsing the boundaries between studio, cinema, and mobility, the Chennai showcase marked a defining moment in how music is experienced—not as sound that plays, but as sound that surrounds.
