AHMEDABAD, FEB 27
In an emotionally resonant celebration of courage, science, and human compassion, Ahmedabad-based Tara Foundation marked World Cochlear Implant Day by honouring 45 children who have successfully transitioned from silence into the vibrant world of sound here on Thursday.
Held at the elegant House of Marigold, the graduation ceremony symbolised not just academic progression but a profound transformation—where children once isolated by hearing impairment are now fully equipped to pursue education alongside their hearing peers in mainstream schools.
Each certificate awarded represented years of perseverance, therapy, surgical intervention, and emotional support—an extraordinary journey powered by modern cochlear implant technology and the unwavering dedication of the foundation’s multidisciplinary team.
“This is not just a graduation—it is the birth of confidence”: Shilpa Choksi
Shilpa Choksi, owner of House of Marigold and a passionate supporter of inclusive initiatives, expressed deep admiration for the young achievers and the foundation’s mission.
“Hosting this ceremony has been an incredibly moving experience. These children are not just graduating—they are stepping into a world that once seemed distant. Their journey reminds us that when science is supported by compassion, miracles happen. Tara Foundation is not only restoring hearing but restoring confidence, dignity, and limitless possibilities.”
She further added:
“Every child deserves to experience laughter, music, and conversation. Supporting initiatives like this is not charity—it is our collective responsibility to ensure inclusion and equal opportunity.”
“Cochlear implants don’t just restore hearing—they restore futures”: Dr. Neeraj Suri
Renowned ENT and Cochlear Implant Surgeon Dr. Neeraj Suri highlighted the transformative medical and social impact of cochlear implant intervention.
“Cochlear implants are among the most revolutionary advancements in modern medicine. When combined with early diagnosis and structured therapy, they enable children to develop speech, language, and cognitive abilities comparable to their peers. What we witness today is not merely medical success—it is human transformation.”
Emphasising early intervention, he noted: “The earlier the intervention, the greater the impact. With proper therapy and family support, these children can pursue education, careers, and dreams without limitation. Tara Foundation’s holistic approach ensures that every child receives not just treatment, but a complete pathway to independence.”
From a single room to a sanctuary of sound
What began in 2016 as a humble initiative operating from a single room has today evolved into one of Gujarat’s most impactful rehabilitation centres for hearing-impaired children. Over 1,000 children now receive comprehensive services at Tara Foundation, including:
- Speech and language therapy
- Audiology and cochlear implant rehabilitation
- Occupational and behavioural therapy
- Music therapy for auditory stimulation
- Montessori-based learning environments
- Sensory gardens designed to enhance cognitive and sensory integration
Each year, 35 to 40 children successfully graduate and enter mainstream education—a powerful testament to the foundation’s sustained commitment to inclusion.
Globally, experts including the World Health Organization emphasise that early diagnosis and timely cochlear implantation can enable children with severe hearing loss to develop near-normal speech and language abilities, dramatically improving educational and social outcomes.
Building bridges between science and humanity
At its core, Tara Foundation’s mission extends beyond therapy—it is about restoring identity, independence, and belonging. By supporting families through every stage—from diagnosis and surgery to rehabilitation and education—the foundation ensures that no child is left behind in silence.
The 45 graduates honoured today stand as living proof that hearing impairment is no longer a barrier, but a challenge that can be overcome with the right blend of medical innovation, structured intervention, and compassionate care.
Their journey reflects a powerful truth: when society invests in inclusion, every child gains the opportunity not just to hear—but to be heard.
