While replying to a query raised by Valecherry MLA Vagai Chandrasekar, the minister said that he would consult the higher education minister and chief minister to get the gate opened, he added.

“On December 24 last year, the IIT management decided to close the gate and a wall was constructed to prevent people from the Velachery side to enter IIT,” said Chandrasekar.

Chandrasekar said behind that wall many Dalits have settled. “They feel that the IIT management closed the gate and constructed a wall to prevent them from entering the compound.

The MLA said many former employees and their family members were finding it difficult to enter the compound.
