In a landmark moment for Indian aviation and air travellers, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) began its commercial passenger operations on December 25, 2025, welcoming its first scheduled arrival and departure flights. The milestone ushers in a new era of seamless connectivity and enhanced travel experience for flyers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The first commercial arrival, IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru, touched down at 08:00 hrs and was greeted with a ceremonial water cannon salute, a time-honoured aviation tradition reserved for momentous occasions. Shortly thereafter, NMIA witnessed its first departure as IndiGo flight 6E882 to Hyderabad took off at 08:40 hrs, completing the airport’s inaugural arrival–departure cycle.
The launch of scheduled passenger services at NMIA marks a significant expansion of India’s aviation infrastructure, offering air passengers greater choice, reduced congestion and improved connectivity. Designed to complement Mumbai’s existing airport, NMIA is set to play a pivotal role in meeting the region’s growing demand for domestic and international air travel.
