With 371 new coronavirus cases reported in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, the tally rose to 12,910 on Thursday, while the toll increased to 773 with the death of two dozen more patients – 17 of them in Ahmedabad – health officials said.

During the same period, 24 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the toll to 773 in the state, said Principal Secretary, Health, Jayanti Ravi.
She added that as many as 269 persons recovered from the disease and discharged from different hospitals in the state in the same period, taking the number of such people to 5,488.

Ravi said the patient recovery rate in some badly affected cities like Surat and Vadodara is better than the national average, which according to her, is a good sign in the fight against the pandemic.
“The recovery rate of Surat is 67.07 percent, almost double than the national average. Vadodara’s recovery rate is 62.66 percent.

“Though coronavirus cases are less in Bhavnagar, the recovery rate there is 73.68 percent,” said Ravi in a video message.
Out of the 371 new cases, 233 were from Ahmedabad district alone. Other districts from where a significant number of cases have reported are Surat (34), Vadodara (24), and Mehsana (13).

Of the 24 patients who succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours, as many as 17 died in different hospitals of Ahmedabad, three in Vadodara and one each in Surat, Anand, Kheda, and Mehsana, she said.
Till now, Gujarat has conducted 1,66,152 tests, out of which 12,910 came positive, while 1,53,242 turned up negative.
Out of the total 12,910 cases registered in Gujarat so far, as many as 9,449 were reported in Ahmedabad district alone, followed by 1,227 in Surat and 750 in Vadodara.

A majority of the deaths were also reported from these three districts.
While 619 people have died so far in Ahmedabad, 57 succumbed to Surat and 32 in Vadodara.
The state government has started homeopathy treatment of over 400 patients having mild symptoms of coronavirus after taking their consent, said Ravi.

233 new cases in Ahmedabad, 17 deaths in 24 hours
The number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district reached 9,449 on Thursday after 233 new patients were detected, a senior health official said.
Out of 24 COVID-19 patients who died in Gujarat since the previous evening, 17 died in hospitals in Ahmedabad city alone, said Principal Secretary (Health) Jayanti Ravi.

The district remains the worst-affected one in Gujarat with 9,449 cases and 619 deaths reported so far.
On the other hand, of 269 patients who walked out of hospitals across Gujarat upon full recovery on Thursday, 200 were discharged in Ahmedabad.
Since Wednesday evening, 225 positive cases were recorded in Ahmedabad city and eight in rural areas of the district.
The city has recorded 9,302 coronavirus cases so far while the remaining 147 cases were reported in other parts of the district.
The state bus service has resumed in Gujarat but not in Ahmedabad because of the massive spread of the virus.

51 Dhanvantari Aarogya Raths supply medicine to 6,657 people in containment zones of Ahmedabad
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had inaugurated commenced the Dhanvantari Aarogya Raths on May 15 to ensure the door-to-door provision of medicines and necessary healthcare in the containment zones of Ahmedabad.

Secretary to the CM, Ashwani Kumar said, “51 Dhanvantari Aarogya Raths are operational at 200 places in Ahmedabad for the door-to-door supply of medicines and healthcare to people in the containment zones.”
So far 6,657 people have availed this benefit. This includes 488 patients of fever, 1,673 patients of cough and cold, and 4,473 people with other ailments.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday launched a week-long campaign to educate citizens on issues related to COVID-19 and said that people should learn to live with coronavirus while fighting against it.

The chief minister launched the campaign named ”Hu Pan Corona Warrior” (I am also corona warrior) via video-conferencing from Gandhinagar.
As part of the campaign, influential persons, writers and artists would address people every day through Facebook Live to motivate as well as educate people about the pandemic and ways to stay safe as part, an official release said.

During the launch, Rupani said that people need to develop the habit of living with coronavirus while simultaneously waging a battle against it.
“Bringing back normalcy amid lockdown is also crucial in the present situation,” he said.
As part of the campaign, spiritual leader and Ram Katha orator Morari Bapu addressed the people on Thursday on how to live with the pandemic.
The campaign, which will run till May 27, is aimed at making people aware of three basic rules to fight coronavirus – children and elderly citizens should remain indoors, not venturing out without mask and always maintaining social distancing.
Rupani urged citizens to take selfies with grandparents and post them on social media platforms with hashtag ”HuPanCoronaWarrior” on May 22.
On May 24, people can click photos wearing masks and post them using the same hashtag, the release said.
On May 26, people will be encouraged to download Aarogya Setu app on their mobile phones, it added.
Barring the containment zones, Gujarat has lifted a majority of restrictions on businesses and people’s movement across the state in the fourth phase of the lockdown.
