Space Application Centre (SAC)-Indian Space Research Organisation Director Nilesh Desai said the role of passing out students is for the betterment and uplift of the society at large for a long term.

Desai was speaking at the 6th convocation ceremony of Indus University held in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

In his convocation address, Nilesh Desai said, “The role of passing out students is for the betterment and uplift of the society at large for a long term. I appreciate the significant contribution made by the Indus University in building the students’ life and nation. The nation has huge expectation from the Indus university teachers and stakeholders in imparting quality education, innovation and research oriented culture creation.  SAC-ISRO will be happy as a mentor for the University through collaboration and support in overall development of the Indus University for research, patent and technology transfer.”

In his welcome address, Dr Nagesh Bhandari, Associate President, Presidential Secretariat, Indus University, said, “I am thankful to Nilesh Desai for accepting our invitation and gracing this convocation as the chief guest. Convocation is a very special and memorable occasion for graduating students, and I wish you all the very best. You are our goodwill ambassadors in the outside world. I assure you that the management is committed to making Indus University an internationally acclaimed university and among the country’s best for academic excellence, professional relevance, and research & innovation.”

Earlier, speaking on the sidelines of the convocation, Dr Nagesh Bhandari said the university has planned to offer law, nursing and pharmacy courses from the next academic year.  Further, the Indus University has been, offering high-quality technical , aeronautical engineering and management education right from its inception, he added.

More than 1,000 students were awarded degrees and medals at the convocation ceremony.

A total of 866 students were awarded undergraduate degrees, and 198 students awarded post-graduate degrees at the hands of the Chief Guest Nilesh Desai and other dignitaries. Four students were conferred with  doctorates. Eighteen students were awarded medals and six students were bestowed awards for excellence in academic performance.

The passing out students were from the Indus Institute of Technology and Engineering, Indus Architecture School, Indus Design School, Indus Institute of IT & Communication Technology, Indus Institute of Management Studies, Indus Institute of Sciences Humanities and Liberal Studies, and Indus Institute of Special Studies.

Earlier, Dr Sandeep Chakravarty, the Executive President of Indus University, made a presentation about the university’s annual report.
