The Textile Ministry has launched the country’s firstr branded high quality cotton, Kasturi Cotton, on Thursday on the eve of World Cotton Day here, says a release.
The launch ceremony was held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPITM), a one-of-a-kind institution under the Union Ministry of Textiles. The World Cotton Day is celebrated on the 7th October every year to recognise the importance of cotton as a global sustainable fibre.
‘Kasturi Cotton’, India’s first branded high quality cotton was launched on Thursday by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The students and faculty of SVPITM along with The Cotton Corporation of India and Sri Shanmughavel Group of Mills celebrated the event by making Kasturi cotton as the theme.

The Chief Guest J Thulsidharan, President of The Indian Cotton Federation, Coimbatore emphasized that the production of quality cotton under Kasturi Brand is important for increasing the global share of India and International Trade.
Dr. Alli Rani, Director, SVPITM, also felicitated the gathering.
The students of SVPITM exhibited their talents through various events like cotton fashion show, panel discussion and Jingle dance show. These events were planned to promote awareness of the brand of Kasturi Cotton.
The celebration ended with a vote of thanks by Dr B Ghosh, Head of the Department of Textiles.
