The World Environment Day was observed on Friday, June 5, by INS Valsura, the premier electrical training establishment of the Indian Navy at Jamnagar, a Defence release said.
Based on the United Nations Biodiversity theme, the unit organised a number of activities involving each and every section of the Valsura family to spread awareness on the importance of protecting the environment and enhancing the biodiversity.
“A mass plantation drive was conducted wherein a total of 610 saplings of 63 local species were planted all across the establishment. The unit is also developing an urban forest based on the concept of Miyawaki plantation. 300 shrubs have been grafted in the Unit nursery and distributed to residents for increasing the green cover in the accommodation areas,” the release added.
Furthermore, concerted efforts were made by all the residents to weed out plastic and non-biodegradable wastes from their premises during mass shramdan organized all over the base. The base is also encouraging all personnel to use cycles for commuting to work place.
A painting and slogan-writing competition was also organised by the unit wherein participants displayed their creative artistic skills to spread awareness about environmental issues.
With the objective of educating the young minds of the establishment during the lockdown induced by coronavirus, webinars were organised by Kendriya Vidyalaya and Naval Kindergarten school of the unit.

ભારતીય નૌસેનાના અગ્રણી ઇલેક્ટ્રિકલ તાલીમ સ્થાપત્ય INS વાલસુરા ખાતે 05 જૂન 2020ના રોજ વિશ્વ પર્યાવરણ દિવસની ઉજવણી કરવામાં આવી હતી. સંયુક્ત રાષ્ટ્રસંઘ દ્વારા જાહેર કરવામાં આવેલી ‘જૈવ વિવિધતા’ની થીમ પર આ ઉજવણી કરવામાં આવી હતી.

વાલસુરા પરિવારના દરેક સભ્યો સહભાગી થઇ શકે તે પ્રકારે આ યુનિટ દ્વારા સંખ્યાબંધ પ્રવૃત્તિઓનું આયોજન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું જેથી પ્રકૃતિના સુરક્ષા અને જૈવ વિવિધતામાં વૃદ્ધિ અંગે તમામ લોકોમાં જાગૃતિ ફેલાવી શકાય. અહીં મોટાપાયે વૃક્ષારોપણ કામગીરી કરવામાં આવી હતી જેમાં સમગ્ર સ્થાપત્ય સંકુલમાં 63 સ્થાનિક પ્રજાતિના 610 વૃક્ષો રોપવામાં આવ્યા હતા. મિયાવાકી વૃક્ષારોપણની પરિકલ્પનાના આધારિત શહેરી વન પણ આ યુનિટ દ્વારા વિકસાવવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે. યુનિટની નર્સરીમાં 300 નાના છોડ રોપવામાં આવ્યા હતા અને રહેણાક વિસ્તારોમાં હરિયાળી વધારવા માટે સ્થાનિક લોકોમાં પણ છોડનું વિતરણ કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું.

આ બેઝ પર તમામ લોકોને કાર્યસ્થળે જવા માટે સાઇકલનો ઉપયોગ કરવા માટે પણ પ્રોત્સાહિત કરવામાં આવે છે. યુનિટ દ્વારા ચિત્રકામ અને સુવાક્ય લેખન સ્પર્ધાનું પણ આયોજન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું જેમાં સહભાગીઓએ પર્યાવરણના પ્રશ્નો અંગે લોકોમાં જાગૃતિ ફેલાવવા માટે તેમનું કલાત્મક કૌશલ્ય બતાવ્યું હતું.
