To mark the World Environment Day, Refex Group, a multi-business conglomerate has on Monday initiated massive tree planting drive – ‘Trees for Life’ in Chennai. The group has also pledged to plant and nurture 1 lakh trees to be planted across the state over the next few years under the project ‘Trees for Life’, said its Managing Director Anil Jain.

To begin with, the Group is committed to planting 10,000 trees this year. To mark this, Anil Jain along with top officials handed over trees to the Tamil Nadu Minister for Sports and Youth Development Udhayanidhi Stalin at his official residence ‘Kurinji Illam’ on Greenways Road in Chennai in the presence of Tamil Nadu Minister Meyyanathan, Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation J Radhakrishnan, Mayor R Priya and Deputy Mayor M Mahesh Kumar.
The ‘Tree for Life’ initiative was rolled out by planting 2,000 trees with the partnership of GCC across Chennai. The first set of tree saplings were planted at ‘Kurinji Illam’ on Greenways Road.
The Minister Udayanidhi Stalin planted 10 saplings in ‘Kurinji Illam’ to kick-start the campaign.
Lauding the initiative of Refex Group, the minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has appealed to the corporates to follow suit to spread the green initiative of the state government.
Speaking about the initiative, Anil Jain, Managing Director, Refex Group said, “We believe that sustainability is crucial to ensure the survival of our planet. By using resources in a responsible and efficient manner, we can help conserve them for our future generations. In addition to infusing sustainable practices into our operations, our sustainability strategies also aim to arrest climate change and lead to ecosystem restoration. The ‘Trees for life’ project is one such initiative. We are committed to become ESG compliant in the coming years. We are happy that our Hon’ble. Ministers to the Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. Udhayanidhi Stalin and Thiru. Siva.V. Meyyanathan, Hon’ble. Mayor and Respectful Deputy Mayor of the Greater Chennai Corporation graced the occasion and planted the first few saplings.”

“Also, resonating with this year’s theme of World Environment Day – #BeatPlasticPollution, we have conducted a beach clean-up drive at Marina Beach. Around 70 employees along with their families participated and collected more than 20 large bags of plastic wasted and disposed of in a responsible manner along with GCC people. Refex has already implemented a plastic-free office policy a year back and banned the usage of all kinds of single-use plastics. We are highly committed to integrating the ten principles of the UN Global Compact into our strategies, policies and procedures, and establishing a culture of integrity to contribute towards achieving the SDGs,” Anil Jain added.
