In a first of its kind in the healthcare sector of Gujarat, a young Consultant Orthopedics & Spine Surgeon of Tricolour Hospitals Group has recently achieved the feat of conducting 7 Successful Spine Surgeries in a single day using the modern Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery technique.
Tricolour Hospitals group which has its corporate office in Vadodara and dedicated to providing comprehensive diagnostic, interventional, surgical and preventive services for all patients regardless of age, complexity, or severity of their condition, on Monday informed that one of its young brilliant faculties, Dr Pinkal Thakkar, Consultant Orthopedics & Spine Surgeon has recently achieved the feat of conducting 7 Successful Spine Surgeries in a single day using the modern Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery technique.
An MBBS Student from the Class of 2009 followed by a MS in Orthopedics in the Class of 2015, Dr. Pinkal has done his Spine Surgery course from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune. This is just his 4th year of experience in the field of Spine Surgery, yet he has mastered the art of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery technique so efficiently, that in one-day he conducted 7 back to back surgeries successfully.
The Sequence of 7 Successful Surgeries
- Endoscopic Spine surgery – Stitch less & Without Anesthesia.
- VertebroPlasty – For Osteoporotic Spinal fractures
- Kyphoplasty – For Osteoporotic Spinal fractures
- MIS – TLIF – Spinal Fusion Surgery
- TLIF – Spine Fusion Surgery
- Surgery for Degenerative Spine diseases due to Spinal Conditions.
- Surgery for Degenerative Spine diseases due to Spinal Conditions.
Sharing his experience, Dr Pinkal said, “It was really an amazing experience. I would like to thank Tricolour Hospitals for some state of the art equipment’s and facilities like Back pain clinic, Physiotherapy with advanced technology, Modular OT equipped with advanced Endoscope and Microscope, which made the whole experience seamless and easy.”
Dr Pinkal further added, “Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) sometimes called less invasive spine surgery accomplishes the same goal as open surgery, but through smaller incisions. In these procedures, we use specialized instruments to access the spine through small incisions. An estimated 80 to 90 percent of our patients report less pain and better mobility after surgery. Over time, they are quickly able to resume some activities you once had to skip out on due to your spinal condition. I am happy that with such modern techniques now available and with world-class facilities that a hospital like Tricolour offers, we would be able to change the lifestyles of many needy patients suffering from spine problems.”
The goal of minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgery is to stabilize the vertebral bones and spinal joints and/or relieve pressure being applied to the spinal cord. As opposed to open spine surgery, minimally invasive surgical approaches can be faster, safer and require less recovery time and also resulting in better cosmetic results, less blood loss, reduced risk of muscle damage, reduced risk of operation and post-operative pain, diminished reliance on pain medications after surgery.
Patient speaks
A 25-year-old male who was going through lot of pain to his right leg which lead him postural defect side bending. He had consulted doctors but nothing went right and one day he consulted our expert Spine surgeon and he was diagnosed with severe disc prolapse & counselled for undergoing endoscopic spine surgery. After listening of spine surgery he was very scared but then he had faith in our doctor and got agreed for it. On the same day of surgery he could walk having correct posture. He felt happy as he was not expecting the same life before surgery.
The efficacy of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Minimally Invasive Spine surgery is a science which has been developed to treat spine problems with less injury to the muscles and other normal structures in the spine. It also helps the surgeon to see only the location where the problem exists in the spine. Other advantages of MISS include
- Smaller incisions
- Less bleeding
- Shorter stays in the hospital or, in some cases, no hospital stay (outpatient surgery)
