NEW DELHI, SEPT 29
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 126th episode of Mann Ki Baat, struck a powerful chord with the nation — saluting the indomitable spirit of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, remembering the soulful legacy of Lata Mangeshkar, celebrating the courage of women naval officers who circumnavigated the globe, and urging citizens — especially the youth — to strengthen India’s self-reliance through Swadeshi.
“Bhagat Singh’s fearless sacrifice will forever inspire India’s youth. Lata Didi’s voice continues to bind us with culture and patriotism,” the PM said, paying heartfelt tributes on their birth anniversaries.
Daughters who made history at sea
In a special conversation, the PM introduced listeners to Lieutenant Commanders Dilna and Roopa, who sailed 47,500 km around the world on a 238-day expedition. They became the first Indians and first Asians to hoist the Tricolour at Point Nemo, the remotest point on earth.
“Teamwork was our biggest strength,” the officers said, inspiring girls across the nation to dream big and embrace challenges.
Culture goes global
PM Modi announced India’s efforts to secure UNESCO recognition for Chhath Puja as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage, following the success of Kolkata’s Durga Puja. He also urged people to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti by buying Khadi and supporting artisans under the mantra Vocal for Local.
Youth, innovation & entrepreneurship; PM spotlighted young changemakers like:
- Yaazh Naturals (Tamil Nadu) – making eco-friendly mats and clothes.
- Johargram (Jharkhand) – taking tribal weaves global.
- Sankalp Creations (Bihar) – empowering 500 women through Mithila painting.
“These success stories show that when tradition meets innovation, opportunities multiply,” he said.
A season of festivals, a season of resolve
As the festive season begins, PM Modi urged citizens to keep markets clean, support local entrepreneurs, and make Swadeshi the heart of every celebration. “When you buy local, you buy hope, dignity, and dreams for fellow Indians,” he emphasized.
