The Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday imposed the stringent Goondas Act on famous YouTuber Savukku Shankar after he was arrested for making derogatory and objectionable remarks about senior cops and women police personnel of the southern state.

Based on the orders of Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, Sandeep Rai Rathore, the detention order under the Goondas Act was served on Shankar by a cybercrime (Chennai) police inspector on May 12, they said.

- According to a statement issued by the Coimbatore Police, Shankar already has seven cases pending against him in different parts of the country, including a drug case
Shankar was arrested by the Coimbatore cyber crime police in connection with the matter.
Shankar’s arrest came in connection with publishing an interview of him on the YouTube channel ‘Red Pix 24×7’ with the proprietor of the channel, Felix Gerald, in which he spoke in an objectionable manner against senior police officers and women police personnel.
According to a statement issued by the Coimbatore Police, Shankar already has seven cases pending against him in different parts of the country, including a drug case.
The sections of the Goondas Act were invoked against him on Sunday. The detention order under the act was served on Shankar by a cybercrime police official on May 12.
“District Cyber Crime has filed FIR under sections 294(b), 353, 509 of IPC, 67 of IT Act and 4 of TN Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act based on a complaint by Mussiri Deputy SP Yasmin,” Police said in a statement.
In the video, that was posted on the Red Pix 24×7 YouTube channel, Shankar addressed the senior cops of the Tamil Nadu Police as “scoundrels” and “womaniser” among other words, following which action was taken by the police.
