AHMEDABAD, AUG 10

What if every tree planted today becomes a breath of fresh air for a child tomorrow—and every pen thrown away becomes a plant instead of plastic waste? Ahmedabad has embarked on an ambitious green mission with Fingertips Data Intelligence Solution, in collaboration with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), launching a mega drive to plant 100,000 trees under its “Unique Vriksharopan” initiative.

The campaign was launched at Happy Street, Law Garden, on Monday amid enthusiastic participation from public representatives, environmental organisations, influencers and citizens, turning a plantation programme into a wider call for everyday environmental responsibility.

The initiative seeks not merely to add trees to Ahmedabad’s landscape, but to cultivate a culture of conservation—where planting, protecting and nurturing trees becomes a shared civic responsibility.

A green mission takes root in Ahmedabad

Ellisbridge MLA Amit Shah joined the launch along with Fingertips Data Intelligence Solution CEO and Founder Sunil Purohit and other dignitaries.

Recalling the hard lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shah underlined the life-saving importance of greenery and urged citizens to support the city’s green movement.

“During the pandemic period of Covid, we realised the importance of oxygen for our survival. Plants not only give us the much-needed oxygen but also give shade to us during scorching summer. Our Union Home Minister Amit Shah had launched a mega plantation drive in his Lok Sabha constituency covering Gandhinagar and parts of Ahmedabad. Aiming to give more greenery in Ahmedabad, we have undertaken a massive plantation drive during Covid. Now, it has turned out to be a thick forest. Let us lend a helping hand to this green drive.”

His message placed the current 100,000-tree campaign in the context of Ahmedabad’s own experience of how sustained plantation can transform the urban landscape over time.

From a sapling today to a forest tomorrow

For Fingertips, the campaign is rooted in the belief that environmental protection cannot remain the responsibility of governments and civic agencies alone.

Purohit said the initiative represents the organisation’s commitment to making Ahmedabad cleaner, greener and healthier in an increasingly digital and technology-driven era.

“Making Ahmedabad cleaner and greener is not solely the responsibility of the government or the corporation—it is a social duty for every citizen and organization. Launching this massive drive to plant 100,000 trees reflects our deep commitment to nature in today’s digital and technology-driven era. Such environmental initiatives will undoubtedly enhance air quality across the city and offer a healthy, clean, and sustainable environment for future generations.”

He also unveiled an unusual addition to the campaign—eco-friendly biodegradable pens containing embedded seeds, seeking to turn an everyday object into a potential vehicle for regeneration.

The pen that could grow into a tree

Calling the conventional plastic pen an environmental challenge hiding in everyday life, Purohit said:

“We have an essential weapon in our daily life. This is sharp weapon is nothing but the quintessential pen, which is made of plastic and damaging the environment, In order to preserve the Mother Earth, today we are launching eco-friendly, biodegradable pens. When you discard it, the embedded seeds will sprout out and germinate into vegetable and herbal trees like neem.”

The concept seeks to connect waste reduction with regeneration—encouraging consumers to replace disposable plastic products with alternatives designed to return something to nature.

The biodegradable pens are therefore positioned not simply as an eco-friendly product, but as a reminder that even the smallest everyday choices can carry an environmental consequence.

Influencers add their voices to the green call

The plantation campaign also received enthusiastic support from popular Gujarat influencers, including SP India, Kushal Mistry, RJ Yuvraj and Vidhi Shah.

The influencers batted strongly for the tree plantation drive and encouraged citizens to participate in the green mission, adding a powerful social-media dimension to the campaign.

Their involvement is expected to help take the message of plantation, environmental awareness and sustainable living beyond the event venue and into the wider community.

100,000 trees—and a larger citizen movement

The campaign brought together representatives of environmental and green initiative organisations along with citizens committed to making Ahmedabad more sustainable.

While the 100,000-tree target forms the centrepiece of “Unique Vriksharopan”, the initiative also seeks to raise awareness about reducing plastic consumption and adopting eco-friendly alternatives.

The organisers emphasised that planting trees is only the beginning. Their long-term impact will depend on nurturing the saplings, protecting them and ensuring that today’s plantation becomes tomorrow’s canopy.

Ahmedabad’s latest green drive thus carries a simple but powerful proposition: a greener city cannot be planted by one organisation alone—it must be grown collectively by an entire generation.

And if 100,000 saplings take root, the real measure of success will not be the number planted on launch day, but the number that survive long enough to shade Ahmedabad’s future.
