What if the next idea that transforms India is being built today by a young mind far beyond the country’s traditional innovation hubs? That question is at the heart of Vande Bharatam, the grassroots innovation and entrepreneurship initiative launched by Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, which has discovered its inaugural cohort from a staggering 26,000-plus applications received from across India.
The scale of the response sends a powerful message: India’s innovation pipeline is not confined to metropolitan boardrooms, established incubators or conventional entrepreneurial centres. It is spread across the country—in diverse communities, disciplines and backgrounds—waiting for the right platform to turn ingenuity into impact.
26,000+ applications, one national innovation pool
Vande Bharatam received applications from every State and Union Territory, with innovators presenting ideas across a remarkably broad spectrum—from mobility and sustainability to technology, agriculture, defence, healthcare, manufacturing and education.
The first cohort brings together innovators united by a common ambition: to solve real-world problems, build nation-building enterprises and create impact at scale.
The initiative rests on a simple but potentially transformative premise: talent is everywhere, even when opportunity is not.
Vande Bharatam seeks to bridge that opportunity gap by connecting promising innovators with top mentors, industry leaders, visibility and opportunities capable of helping them convert promising ideas into meaningful enterprises.
Gautam Adani: ‘Possibilities of tomorrow’s Bharat’
For Gautam Adani, the initiative represents more than a search for promising business ideas. It is an effort to create pathways for innovators who may otherwise remain outside India’s traditional entrepreneurial networks.
Speaking on the launch of the first cohort, Adani said: “When I look at these innovators, I see the possibilities of tomorrow’s Bharat. Talent has no city limits and opportunity should not have them either. Years from now, I hope we will look back at this first cohort and see among them the founders and innovators who went on to build enterprises that transformed Bharat. This is their initial chapter. And it is Vande Bharatam’s first chapter too.”
The initiative is rooted in Adani’s stated belief in giving back to the country that gave him the opportunity to “dream, build and grow”, while creating similar pathways for others.
From raw ideas to real-world enterprises
Selection of the inaugural cohort followed a multi-stage evaluation process, with the chosen innovators now entering the next phase of their journey.
The first cohort will participate in Vande Bharatam Immersive Week, featuring mentorship sessions and interactions with business leaders, entrepreneurs and experts, alongside successive rounds of evaluation.
The format is designed to expose innovators not merely to recognition, but to the kind of knowledge, networks and institutional access that can help strengthen an idea and move it towards implementation.
The August 14 moment of recognition
The journey will culminate in the Vande Bharatam Grand Finale on August 14, when outstanding innovators will be recognised and presented with the Vande Bharatam Trophy.
For the selected cohort, the finale marks an important milestone—but the larger ambition extends well beyond a single event.
Vande Bharatam is conceived as more than a competition. Its longer-term objective is to create a national platform capable of discovering promising ideas at an early stage and connecting innovators—particularly those beyond India’s traditional entrepreneurial centres—with the people and institutions that can accelerate their journeys.
Building India’s next generation of problem-solvers
The first cohort represents more than a list of selected innovators. It represents a snapshot of India’s emerging entrepreneurial imagination—where technology can meet agriculture, sustainability can intersect with manufacturing, and grassroots ingenuity can find pathways to national scale.
With 26,000-plus applications from every State and Union Territory, Vande Bharatam has already demonstrated the breadth of India’s appetite for innovation.
Its bigger test now is whether those ideas can evolve into enterprises, technologies and solutions capable of transforming lives at scale.
If the first chapter is about discovering the innovators, the chapters ahead could be about discovering what tomorrow’s Bharat is capable of building.
