The 7th season of Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League, organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association since 2016, will be held from June 12 to July 12.
For the first time in the TNPL, the Decision Review System (DRS) has been introduced but it will not apply for wide and no balls, said TNCA Assistant Secretary Dr Baba here on Tuesday.
Addressing reporters along with IPL Cricketer M Shahrukh Khan and TNPL Chairman P Anand, he said that after six successful seasons, this season is set to happen in Coimbatore, Dindigul, Salem and Tirunelveli. The number of venues will be expanded from next TNPL season. Madurai, Trichirappalli and Villupuram would be the next choice. Most probably, Madurai will become the fifth venue from 8th season, he added.
Dr Baba also said that the for the first time, one reserve day will be introduced this time for Qualifiers, eliminators and the final. Replying to another query, he said that the TNPL is mulling to introduce Women TNPL after identifying the players from the ongoing women scouting camps across the state, he added.
All the teams participating in the Tamil Nadu Premier League have been selecting their players through a draft system in the last six seasons, but this year for the first time in Tamil Nadu Premier League history each team has selected players through an auction which was held earlier this year.

Sai Sudarshan of Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League was bought by the Lyca Kovai Kings for Rs 21.6 lakhs and was the most expensive player in the TNPL auction. He was bought at a higher price in the TNPL auction than in the IPL auction thus showcasing the rapid growth of the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
The eight teams participating in the Tamil Nadu Premier League are Ba11sy Trichy, Chepauk Super Gillies, Dindigul Dragons, iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Lyca Kovai Kings, Nellai Royal Kings, Siechem Madurai Panthers and Salem Spartans. The Trichy team was participating in the TNPL till last year as Ruby Trichy Warriors but will play as Ba11sy Trichy in the coming season. The team was bought by Drumstick Productions and renamed Ba11sy Trichy earlier this year.
In the inaugural season of TNPL, Tuti Patriots won the trophy by defeating Chepauk Super Gillies. But since then, the Chepauk Super Gillies team has won the Tamil Nadu Premier League 4 times in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022 and is also the current joint-defending champions. The Madurai team, which did not taste success in the first two years, was rebranded as Siechem Madurai Panthers in 2018 and won the Tamil Nadu Premier League title for the first time in the same year. Lyca Kovai Kings shared the TNPL title for the 6th season with Chepauk Super Gillies
