The personnel of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Saturday successfully carried out the medical evacuation of a critically injured fisherman from an Indian Fishing Boat Sidheshwari. The operation took place 40 nautical miles from Dwarka coast.
“Makvana Manu Aala, a 50-year-old crew suffered severe injury while handling fishing net at sea. The fishing net’s steel wires under strain got entangled around his ankle and almost severed his right leg at the level of ankle. The IFB raised an SOS call on Radio VHF channel 16; this message was picked up by an ICG Dornier aircraft on patrol in area,” a statement said.

“Considering the criticality of the patient, ICG medical officer provided medical advice. The Indian Coast Guard sprung into action and ICG Air Enclave Porbander swiftly launched an ICG Advanced Light Helicopter to rescue,” the statement added.
“The ICG helicopter carried out a safe medical evacuation of the critically injured patient into the helicopter. The patient was transferred safely to ICG Dist HQ-15, Okha. Initial Medical Aid was provided to the patient by ICG medical team at the Headquarters and patient stabilised. He has since been safely shifted for advanced medical care at Dwaraka for further medical management in coordination with various stakeholders, including the boat owner,” the statement further added.
