The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis and Ganga Hospital celebrated a major milestone with the completion of their 100th joint medical camp here on Saturday and Sunday. The camps, which began in June 2022, have provided free breast cancer detection and diabetic foot care to thousands of people in need.
Project Shakti, the breast cancer detection initiative, has screened over 5,097 women and identified and treated 64 breast cancers free of cost. The project utilizes a sophisticated ‘Mammo Bus‘, equipped with the latest equipment, valued at ₹2.25 crores.

The joint initiative has been made possible through the generous contributions of the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis and Ganga Hospital. The Rotary Club contributed ₹1.4 crores, while Ganga Hospital contributed an equal amount. Project Walk for Life has a total project cost of ₹1.5 crores, with the Rotary Club and Ganga Hospital contributing ₹88 lakhs and ₹62 lakhs, respectively.
Dr. Raja Shanmuga Krishnan from Ganga Hospital emphasized the importance of early breast cancer detection and proper footwear and wound care for diabetic patients.
A commemorative function marked the occasion, attended by Rtn Bhaskar, Dr. Raja Shanmuga Krishnan, Dr. Kumanan, and distinguished guests Dr. Karikal Pari Shankar, DSP Harur, Mr. D. Suriya Dhanapal, President of Harur Municipality, and Dr. Shanthi, Joint Director of Health Service Department.
The free camp, organized by Harur Medical and Surgicals, was held near the Old Bus Stand at Keelbachapettai, Harur on February 8-9, 2025, from 9 am to 5 pm.
