AHMEDABAD, OCT 15
In a nation increasingly reliant on digital transactions, HDFC Bank has issued an urgent advisory guiding citizens on how to respond swiftly and effectively if they fall victim to digital financial fraud. The Bank’s easy-to-remember ‘LBW’ (Law–Bank–Wipe) framework — inspired by cricket — outlines three critical steps victims must take immediately to contain losses and secure their data.
L – Law Enforcement
File a complaint by calling the 1930 helpline (Ministry of Home Affairs) and report the incident on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in). Suspicious calls or messages can also be reported via the Chakshu portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in). Quick reporting increases the chances of fund recovery and prevents others from being defrauded.
B – Bank
Notify your bank instantly to block compromised cards, UPI IDs, or net banking access, ensuring no further unauthorised transactions occur.
W – Wipe
Reset all device and banking passwords, clear cookies, and wipe affected devices to eliminate malicious files and restore security.
“We urge all customers to stay vigilant while transacting digitally,” said Mr. Manish Agrawal, Senior Executive Vice President – Credit Intelligence and Control, HDFC Bank. “Fraudsters use sophisticated emotional manipulation tactics. Acting fast after an incident — by following these simple steps — greatly improves fund recovery chances and prevents future attacks.”
The Bank also warned citizens about evolving scams such as ‘digital arrest’ frauds, investment scams, and APK file traps — all designed to exploit emotions through GTH: Greed, Threat, and Help.
Through nationwide cyber fraud awareness workshops, HDFC Bank continues to collaborate with regulators, law enforcement, and community groups to strengthen India’s cyber hygiene and digital safety net.
