India Post made a bold leap into the future with the inauguration of Gujarat’s first Gen-Z themed revamped Post Office at IIT Gandhinagar, transforming the traditional postal space into a vibrant, youth-focused, tech-enabled zone designed for today’s digital-first generation. The revamp is part of a nationwide drive to modernize 46 campus Post Offices across India by December 15.

The newly reimagined IIT Gandhinagar Post Office was inaugurated on December 5, 2025 by Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar, Chief Postmaster General, Gujarat Circle, and Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, in the presence of senior officials, including Rajeev Kandpal, General Manager (Finance), and Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region. A Special Cover titled “IITGN: First Gen Z Themed Post Office of Gujarat’’ and a permanent pictorial cancellation were also released to mark the milestone.
Speaking about the transformation, Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar said the revamped Post Office has been shaped entirely around the mindset and expectations of today’s youth.
“The IIT Gandhinagar Post Office has been designed keeping in mind the needs, creativity, modern outlook, and technological expectations of today’s youth. Its look and feel fully reflect Gen-Z vibes and culture. The redesign has been carried out with the active participation of IIT students, whose ideas have shaped the murals, interior themes, and promotional material—giving the Post Office a distinct youth-driven identity.”

Director Rajat Moona appreciated the initiative and highlighted the Post Office’s potential impact on campus life. “IIT Gandhinagar students will benefit greatly from the Department of Posts’ services and the modern facilities offered.”
He also noted the standout feature — the “Tree of Life of IITGN” mural created by IIT students. The artwork celebrates the diverse birdlife found across the campus, symbolising IITGN’s deep ecological connection and blending nature with youthful creativity.
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav highlighted the upgraded services that make the Post Office a lively, accessible space for students. “Modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, cafeteria, a mini-library, Parcels, Gyan Post, Parcel Packaging Services, Philately, Post Office Savings Scheme, Postal Life Insurance, India Post Payments Bank, Speed Post discounts for students, and QR-based digital payment facilities make the Gen Z IIT Post Office more contemporary and accessible.”

The revamped IIT Gandhinagar Post Office stands as a beacon of youth empowerment, institutional collaboration, and next-generation public-service transformation.
To acknowledge their role in shaping this youth-centric space, IIT students and faculty who contributed to the design were felicitated during the event.
