The buzz around director Vetrimaaran’s much-anticipated action entertainer ‘Arasan’, starring Silambarasan aka Simbu, has hit a new high with the release of an exclusive Behind The Scenes video titled ‘Behind the Rise of Arasan’. The BTS clip, dropped by the makers, has sent fans and cinephiles into a frenzy, offering a rare, raw peek into the making of one of Tamil cinema’s most awaited projects.
Sources from the unit reveal that Simbu is currently shooting in Kovilpatti, with the ongoing schedule expected to continue till the end of the month. The film is being mounted on a grand scale by Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations, further fuelling expectations.

- Simbu’s intense makeover revealed as ‘Arasan’ Shoots in Kovilpatti
- Vetrimaaran’s method, on-set moments go viral
- Vijay Sethupathi’s entry adds firepower to the cast
- An untold chapter from the world of ‘Vada Chennai’
Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to announce the release, writing: “The rise begins! Behind The Rise of #Arasan is out now!” — a post that quickly gained traction across social media platforms.
Inside the BTS: Grit, Craft and Conversations
The BTS video showcases Simbu’s striking transformation for his role, hinting at a rugged, intense character deeply rooted in realism — a trademark of Vetrimaaran’s cinema. The clip also captures the director’s immersive working style on set, alongside candid moments such as Simbu in conversation with actor Samuthirakani.
Interestingly, much of the BTS footage appears to have been shot during the making of the earlier-released promo, which itself became a talking point for its bold narrative tone.
A Promo That Set the Tone
The promo, released earlier this year, opens on an unexpectedly light note with director Nelson appearing as himself. What follows, however, is a chilling narrative turn as Simbu hints at real crimes, real people and ongoing court cases, urging Nelson to include a disclaimer.
In a tense courtroom sequence, Simbu’s character is charged with committing three murders in a single night. Though he pleads innocence, the visuals that follow suggest otherwise, leaving viewers intrigued and unsettled. The promo strongly indicates that ‘Arasan’ explores an untold story from the world of ‘Vada Chennai’, while firmly standing as a distinct narrative.

‘Arasan’ marks the first-ever collaboration between Simbu and Vetrimaaran, a combination that alone has set expectations soaring. The excitement multiplied with the announcement that Vijay Sethupathi has joined the cast, alongside Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani and Kishore in pivotal roles. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music, adding further weight to the project.
Putting an end to speculation, Vetrimaaran recently clarified that ‘Arasan’ is not ‘Vada Chennai 2’, despite its thematic and tonal connections. He confirmed that while the film may inhabit a familiar world, it tells a completely new story with Simbu at its centre.
With its hard-hitting premise, stellar cast and a BTS glimpse that promises uncompromising realism, ‘Arasan’ is shaping up to be one of the most explosive Tamil films in the making.
