As the calendar turns to 2026, a dedicated group of walkers will commence a meaningful journey along the historic Dandi Path from Sabarmati Ashram at 6:30 AM on Saturday, 3 January 2026, retracing the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi’s Salt March. Rather than merely covering kilometres on foot, participants aim to internalise the spirit of the original march — honouring moral strength, discipline, and steadfast resolve that defined Gandhiji’s non-violent struggle for India’s freedom.
Organisers say the walk goes far beyond a physical feat. By covering 25–30 km a day at a reflective, steady pace, walkers will celebrate fitness with meaning, demonstrating that age is no barrier to purpose, dedication, and patriotic commitment. This pace also allows participants to soak in the landscapes, villages, and lives that shaped India’s independence journey — much like Gandhiji’s own experience from Sabarmati to the salt-making village of Dandi.
A core aim of the yatra is to pass the baton of history to younger generations. Walking side by side, participants highlight that patriotism, fitness, simplicity, and social purpose transcend age, bringing alive the values of perseverance and inner strength for all who witness or join the walk. By living the history instead of merely reading it, the march fosters a sense of national identity rooted in restraint and compassion.
The organisers extend an open invitation to anyone inclined to walk alongside them — to feel the energy, simplicity, and shared purpose of this historic path. The aim is to inform and inspire: come, even for a stretch of the route, and absorb the quiet resolve and camaraderie that accompanied Gandhi and his followers during India’s Salt Satyagraha.
