India’s participation, led by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), featured its largest-ever national pavilion spanning 1,074 square metres—an expansion of 50% over previous editions. This milestone elevated India to the position of the largest non-European Union exhibitor and placed it among the top five exhibitors worldwide, reflecting its emergence as a reliable supplier of premium organic produce compliant with rigorous international standards.

The India Pavilion brought together participation from more than 20 states and featured 67 co-exhibitors, including Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), exporters, and state agencies. India showcased a wide array of certified organic products, including Basmati rice, spices, oilseeds, millets, and medicinal herbs, highlighting the country’s vast agricultural diversity and export capabilities.
Curated tastings of organic Basmati rice and innovative culinary pairings attracted global visitors and demonstrated India’s unique blend of traditional farming wisdom and modern sustainability practices.
India’s strong presence also reinforced efforts to secure a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on organic certification standards with the European Union, which would simplify compliance and enhance market access for Indian exporters.
FTA Momentum and Strategic Partnerships Set to Accelerate Organic Trade
India’s recognition at BIOFACH comes at a pivotal moment, as negotiations on a proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) have recently concluded. The agreement is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade, strengthen resilient supply chains, and create new growth avenues for India’s organic export sector.
With global demand for organic food rising steadily amid increasing health and environmental awareness, India’s certified organic ecosystem—built on traceability, sustainability, and farmer empowerment—is poised to play a critical role in the future of global food security.
BIOFACH 2026 Showcases Innovation, Sustainability and Organic Future
BIOFACH 2026 brought together around 2,200 exhibitors and thousands of stakeholders from across the globe, reaffirming its status as the premier platform for organic trade, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
“BIOFACH 2026 impressively demonstrates how broad, modern, and international the organic world is. It is a place for orientation, exchange, and joint creation,” said Dominik Dietz, Director of BIOFACH. “Our task is to highlight the diversity of the sector and to pick up on the ideas that promote sustainable nutrition.”
The exhibition highlighted emerging trends shaping the organic sector, including functional nutrition, microbiome-focused foods, fermentation-based innovations, precision production techniques, and simplified ingredient formulations. These trends underline the transition of organic agriculture from a niche segment to a mainstream global movement.
The event also featured 31 startups presenting breakthrough ideas and technologies through innovation platforms, demonstrating how entrepreneurship and sustainability are converging to redefine the global organic landscape.
