NE PARLIAMENT BUREAU
NEW DELHI, MAR 10
Gujarat has emerged as the top-performing state in India’s solar power expansion, ranking No.1 in sanctioned capacity under the “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects” scheme, with a total generation capacity of 12,150 MW across seven solar parks.
The information was shared by Shripad Yesso Naik in the Rajya Sabha on March 10, 2026, while replying to a question raised by Parimal Nathwani.
According to the minister, the Government of India has sanctioned 54 solar parks nationwide under the flagship renewable energy initiative as of February 28, 2026, with a combined sanctioned capacity of 39,188 MW.
Gujarat Leads, Rajasthan Follows
Among all states, Gujarat leads the country with seven solar parks and a sanctioned capacity of 12,150 MW under the scheme.
It is followed by Rajasthan, which ranks second with 11 solar parks and a total sanctioned capacity of 10,726 MW.
The initiative forms a key component of India’s clean energy expansion strategy, aimed at accelerating large-scale solar power generation through plug-and-play infrastructure for renewable developers.
Key Challenges in Implementation
Responding to the query on implementation hurdles, Naik highlighted several challenges faced during the development of solar energy projects.
“The major challenges in implementation of solar energy projects, including that of the Solar Park Scheme, inter-alia involves acquisition of clear land, matching the timelines for creation of transmission infrastructure and development of renewable energy projects, delay in tariff adoption, etc.”
He added that the Union government is actively coordinating with states and stakeholders to address these bottlenecks.
“The Ministry is making all necessary efforts to mitigate these challenges through regular meetings and communications with respective State/UTs and other stakeholders.”
Gujarat’s Major Solar Parks
The seven solar parks sanctioned in Gujarat include major renewable energy hubs spread across Banaskantha, Ahmedabad and Kutch districts:
- Radhnesada Solar Park, Banaskantha district – 700 MW
- Dholera Solar Park, Ahmedabad district – 1,000 MW
- NTPC Renewable Energy Park, Kutch district – 4,750 MW
- GSECL Renewable Energy Park, Kutch district – 3,325 MW
- GIPCL Renewable Energy Park Phase I, Kutch district – 600 MW
- GIPCL Renewable Energy Park Phase II, Kutch district – 1,200 MW
- GIPCL Renewable Energy Park Phase III, Kutch district – 575 MW
Total Capacity: 12,150 MW
India’s Expanding Solar Mission
The Solar Park Scheme is designed to accelerate the development of large-scale solar infrastructure by providing developers with ready land, grid connectivity and enabling infrastructure.
As India accelerates its transition to clean energy, these mega solar parks are expected to play a critical role in scaling renewable power generation and supporting the country’s long-term climate commitments.
