In a remarkable display of community service and grassroots healthcare outreach, the Rotary Club of Bhavnagar Vibrant, in association with the Indian Red Cross Society, organised a comprehensive free medical camp at Koli Samaj Vadi in Karchaliya Para on March 14.
Held from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, the camp aimed at delivering accessible primary healthcare services while raising awareness about preventive health among underserved sections of society. The initiative witnessed an overwhelming response, with 223 patients receiving medical consultations, diagnostic screening and treatment guidance.

Restoring vision and promoting preventive care
A major highlight of the camp was the eye screening programme, where several residents underwent detailed vision checks. Patients diagnosed with refractive issues were provided free spectacles, helping them regain clarity of sight and improve their daily quality of life.
Doctors also conducted cataract screening, identifying 12 patients who were referred for advanced examination and free cataract surgery, with surgery dates already scheduled.
Simultaneously, hemoglobin testing was conducted for 162 individuals, enabling early detection of anaemia. Patients diagnosed with low hemoglobin levels were provided iron supplements for three months, ensuring continued health support beyond the camp.
Strengthening Community Health
Speaking on the occasion, Rotary Club President Namrata Chadha said: “Healthcare should never remain a privilege limited to a few. Through this camp, our aim was to bring essential medical services directly to the community and encourage people to prioritise preventive health.”
A representative of the Indian Red Cross Society emphasised the importance of collaborative service initiatives.
“Such camps play a vital role in bridging the healthcare access gap in local communities. Early diagnosis and awareness can significantly reduce long-term health risks.”
Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the initiative. One resident who received spectacles remarked:
“For months I struggled to see clearly. Receiving a free eye check-up and spectacles today has made a huge difference to my daily life.”

A collective effort for social good
The camp saw active participation from Rotary members, including Club Secretary Sunita Shah, and members Krishna Shah, Manali Kanakiya, Ami Shah and Kashmira Kothari, who worked tirelessly to ensure smooth organisation and patient support.
The initiative reaffirmed Rotary’s enduring mission of service above self, demonstrating how community partnerships can effectively strengthen public health outreach at the grassroots level.
