For those who dream of stepping into the planet’s last great wilderness, a new chapter in extreme travel is unfolding. Polar Latitudes Expeditions has introduced Discoverer—a vessel steeped in polar legacy—into its fleet, opening the gateway to richer, more immersive Antarctic adventures from the 2026–27 season.
Previously known as Exploris One, the ship replaces Seaventure and marks a strategic shift as the company transitions from chartered vessels to owned assets—giving it full command over every detail of the expedition experience.

“By replacing a chartered vessel with one that we own, we strengthen our ability to shape the expedition experience from start to finish,” said Anders Kristensen, Chief Commercial Officer at Polar Latitudes Expeditions. “This allows us to refine every aspect of the journey, from expedition planning to onboard learning, ensuring travellers experience Antarctica in the most immersive way possible.”
A Polar Veteran Reimagined
Crafted at Finland’s famed Rauma shipyard, Discoverer carries a storied past, having navigated some of the world’s most remote waters under iconic names like Silver Explorer and Prince Albert II.
A comprehensive 2023 refurbishment has elevated the ship with upgraded accommodations, modern systems, and redesigned social spaces. Further enhancements are underway to align with Polar Latitudes’ philosophy—small groups, big exploration, and meaningful engagement with fragile ecosystems.
Bucket-List Voyages, Reimagined
From the 2026–27 Antarctic season, Discoverer will take over all scheduled departures—offering guests seamless upgrades in experience while retaining their original itineraries.
Among the crown jewels is the legendary Crossing the Antarctic Circle—a milestone that ranks high on every serious explorer’s bucket list.
Beyond the Ice: Into Untamed Frontiers
Adventure doesn’t stop at Antarctica. During the off-season, Discoverer will sail under sister brand Heritage Expeditions, charting remote and rugged terrains.
In early 2027, the vessel will carve through the dramatic fjords of Chile, unveiling Patagonia as a fresh frontier—where glaciers, mountains, and wild seascapes promise a new kind of expedition thrill.
India’s New Love Affair with Extreme Travel
The timing couldn’t be better. Indian travellers—especially luxury and adventure seekers—are increasingly turning toward expedition cruising, chasing raw, unfiltered experiences in destinations like Antarctica and the Arctic.
With expert-led excursions, close wildlife encounters, and an emphasis on responsible exploration, Polar Latitudes is tapping into this growing desire for journeys that go beyond tourism—into transformation.
The Journey Ahead
For founder John McKeon, Discoverer signals a bold new phase: “We have had many successful seasons with Seaventure, and we are grateful for the journeys we have shared. At the same time, Discoverer represents the next step in our long-term vision of building one of the most comprehensive expedition cruise programmes in the industry. There is much more to come.”
