A thoughtfully curated reading initiative at C. C. Sheth College of Commerce turned a biography into a powerful learning experience, as students engaged deeply with the life and values of renowned Indian diamantaire Arunkumar Mehta.
Organised in collaboration with the Navgujarat Central Library, the special session revolved around the book Heero – One Personality, Two Meanings authored by Chirantana Bhatt. The initiative, conceptualised and conducted by Dr Rishi Thakar, aimed to inspire students through Mehta’s journey, values, and achievements.
Around 25 students actively participated, transforming the session into an engaging platform for reflection and dialogue.

Opening the session, Principal Dr Dharmendra Mistry set the tone by tracing Mehta’s remarkable journey.
“From his early days in Patan to emerging as a global businessman, Shri Arunkumar Mehta’s story is a testament to perseverance, vision and grounded values,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Rishi Thakar underscored the deeper significance of the exercise.
“This was not just a reading session, but an attempt to connect students with a living philosophy of humility, simplicity and ethical success. Mehta’s life offers lessons far beyond textbooks,” he noted.
Students brought fresh perspectives to the discussion, reflecting on diverse facets of Mehta’s personality and professional journey.
B.Com Semester-2 student Sonu Kumari said: “What stood out was his composure during crises. It taught me that failures are not setbacks but stepping stones if approached with the right mindset.”
M.Com Semester-2 student Saskhi Prajapati observed: “His leadership and global vision were inspiring. He not only expanded his business but also contributed to institutionalising trade practices.”
Another M.Com student, Radhika Pasi, highlighted the ethical dimension: “His integrity and deep-rooted Jain values show that success and ethics can go hand in hand.”
Alumnus Dharmik Solanki, present as an invited guest, added: “His approach to ethical trading is something today’s professionals must learn from and uphold.”
The session concluded with a vibrant exchange of ideas, leaving participants inspired to align ambition with values, drawing from the life and legacy of Arunkumar Mehta.
