NEW DELHI, MAY 6

In a landmark demonstration of technology-driven governance, the Election Commission of India’s flagship IT platform ECINET emerged as the backbone of the 2026 General Elections to Legislative Assemblies and bye-elections—ensuring seamless operations, faster reporting, and robust cybersecurity.

“ECINET played a central role in streamlining election processes including real-time monitoring, enabling faster reporting, and enhancing transparency,” the Commission said, highlighting the platform’s performance during the high-stakes polls.

  • ECI’s digital backbone delivers seamless operations across Assembly polls and bye-elections
  • Over 10 crore downloads, billions of hits underline massive public engagement
  • Cybersecurity grid thwarts 68 lakh malicious attempts on counting day
  • QR-based access system debuts to secure counting centres nationwide

Launched officially in January 2026, ECINET has already crossed 10 crore downloads, reflecting widespread adoption. Its beta version was earlier deployed during the Bihar elections in November 2025, laying the groundwork for nationwide implementation.

On poll days—April 9, 23, and 29—the platform recorded a staggering 98.3 crore hits, while on counting day, May 4, traffic surged to an average of 3 crore hits per minute, underlining its critical role in disseminating real-time updates.

“ECINET cybersecurity protocols resulted in effectively countering over 68 lakh malicious hits on counting day originating from both within India and overseas, targeting key election platforms, including the results portal,” the Commission noted.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative to strengthen security at counting centres, ECINET introduced a QR code–based Photo Identity Card system across all States and Union Territories.

“On counting day, over 3.2 lakh QR codes were generated to ensure that only authorised personnel could access counting venues, thereby preventing any unauthorized entry in the Counting Centers,” the statement added.

The efficiency of ECINET underscore a decisive shift toward digital-first election management in India—enhancing transparency, security, and voter confidence at an unprecedented scale.
