In a chilling incident that has once again raised serious concerns over women’s safety in the national capital, a woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a stationary sleeper bus in Delhi, with police arresting the driver and conductor of the vehicle in connection with the crime.

According to Delhi Police, the horrifying incident unfolded on Monday night in the Rani Bagh area. The survivor, a resident of a slum cluster in Pitampura and employed at a factory in Mangolpuri, alleged in her complaint that two men sexually assaulted her inside the bus.
Police officials said the accused — identified as the bus driver and conductor — were taken into custody after an FIR was registered based on the woman’s statement and medical examination.
Investigators revealed that the woman was returning home from work on the night of May 11, as per her routine, when a sleeper bus allegedly stopped near a bus stand in Saraswati Vihar. According to reports, the woman approached a man standing near the bus entrance to ask for the time.
Moments later, she was allegedly forced inside the vehicle.
Police sources said the accused allegedly drove the bus towards Nangloi, where the sexual assault reportedly took place inside the sleeper coach, turning the vehicle into a scene of horror.
The bus allegedly used in the crime has since been seized by Delhi Police as forensic and technical teams intensify the investigation. Officials confirmed that multiple angles are being probed to establish the sequence of events and gather evidence.
Police further stated that the survivor is married and has three children. Authorities assured that the investigation is progressing on priority and strict action will be pursued against those involved.
The incident has sparked outrage and renewed debate over public safety, especially for working women travelling late at night in the capital city.
