Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday urged his Delhi counterpart Aravind Kejriwal to take care of 559 Tablighi’s hospitalized or quarantined in Delhi.
In a DO letter written to Aravind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister said “there are 559 Tablighis from Tamil Nadu, who had attended Tabligh Jamaat in New Delhi and has been hospitalised or quarantined’’.
“The state government has been receiving several grievances concerning the conditions of their stay. The individuals have been complaining that some of them are diabetic and suffering from other comorbidities. They are also not provided timely meals in the quarantine facilities,’’ Palaniswami said.
A Tabilighi from Tamil Nadu Muhammed Mustafa Hajiyar who was in quarantine expired on April 22. Whenever grievances are received from quarantined / hospitalised individuals, the Principal Resident Commissioner based Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi has been taking up the same with the Health and Family Welfare Department, Delhi or the District Magistrates concerned, requesting necessary action to redress their grievances, the Chief Minister said in his letter.
He also appealed Kejriwal to give instructions to the authorities concerned to extend the best possible care for the quarantined / hospitalized individuals and also provide necessary medical assistance to those who are suffering from comorbid conditions. As the Ramadan month is due to start, authorities may be asked to provide food and medicine to them at appropriate times, Palaniswami added.
