Thalapathy Vijay met and greeted all the 129 winners of rural local body elections from Vijay Makkal Iyakkam recently at his home in Panaiyur. Incidentally, this is the first poll for the fledgling VMI which once again proves that ‘Aazhaporan Tamilan’ has become a reality.
On Wednesday, the actor’s team released a picture from the event where the actor was seen along with all the winning candidates.
According to the release, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam candidates contested 169 seats of which they bagged 129 seats in the recently concluded Rural Local Body Polls. However, parties like Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi and Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam which were started a few years ago failed to even dent the victory of DMK in most of the panchayats and wards in the districts.
All the winners met actor Vijay at his home in Panaiyur and after the event, the general secretary of VMI Anand released a press statement.
In the statement, Anand said that actor Vijay told the leaders to flag the basic problem faced by the people to the state and central governments and to take efforts to solve them. He also told the functionaries to remove the members who work against the belief of the organization.
Earlier, Vijay showed his interest in the electoral politics of Tamil Nadu and met leaders of various political parties, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. However, still he did not openly convey his support to the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam.
The Vijay Makkal Iyakkam was registered by the father of Vijay, SA Chandrasekhar during the run-up for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2021.
