AHMEDABAD, NOV 6
Ahmedabad has once again underlined its standing as a prominent Chartered Accountancy education hub, outperforming the national benchmark in the September 2026 CA Foundation examination, with a pass percentage of 20.94% against the all-India average of 18.93%. Of the 3,587 candidates who appeared from the Ahmedabad centre, 751 cleared the examination, marking a significant improvement over the centre’s performance in the May 2026 session.
Announcing the results on Friday, ICAI Ahmedabad Branch Chairman CA Rinkesh Shah and Vice Chairman CA Samir Chaudhary congratulated the successful candidates, including 10 achievers from the city, and wished them success in their next academic milestone — the CA Intermediate examination.
Devam Sanghavi emerged as the Ahmedabad centre topper with 341 marks, while Shaival Sutaria secured the second position at the centre with 340 marks and an All India Rank (AIR) of 20.
Responding to a question on how Ahmedabad had sustained its performance above the national average, CA Rinkesh Shah said: “Ahmedabad is known as the CA hub. It is no wonder that students from our centre have been maintaining this trend consistently. We attribute this success to our students’ dedication, determination and hard work to give their best.”
The September results represent a 3.61-percentage-point rise in Ahmedabad’s pass rate compared with the May 2026 examination, when the centre had recorded 17.33%, with 451 of 2,602 candidates qualifying. That session’s national pass percentage stood at 20.09%, with 18,124 of 90,217 candidates clearing the examination.
Ahmedabad had also performed above the national average in the January 2026 session, registering a pass percentage of 20.55% — 809 successful candidates out of 3,937 — against the all-India figure of 19.23%, with 21,099 of 1,09,694 candidates qualifying.
At the national level, 19,736 of the 1,04,240 candidates who appeared for the September examination qualified, translating into an overall pass percentage of 18.93%. The examination was conducted at 580 centres across the country.
The national merit list was jointly topped by Kansika of Hisar and Mahek Gupta of Hyderabad, who scored 361 marks each, securing 90.25%. Sparsh Khandelwal of Ajmer and J Jayanth of Chennai shared AIR 2 with 359 marks (89.75%), while Vaibhavi Singhal of Gwalior secured AIR 3 with 358 marks (89.50%).
The gender-wise results showed a pass percentage of 20.47% among male candidates and 17.32% among female candidates. Of the 53,398 male candidates who appeared, 10,931 qualified; among 50,842 female candidates, 8,805 cleared the examination.
The qualifying benchmark
To qualify for the CA Foundation examination, candidates must secure a minimum of 40 marks in each of the four papers and an aggregate of at least 200 out of 400 marks.
The four papers cover Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics. Papers 1 and 2 are descriptive, while Papers 3 and 4 are objective in nature. The objective papers carry negative marking, with 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer; unanswered questions attract no penalty.
Candidates who qualify can proceed to the CA Intermediate stage, while those who do not meet the prescribed criteria may reappear in the next examination cycle. The January 2027 CA Foundation examinations are scheduled for January 3, 5, 7 and 9.
