AHMEDABAD, JULY 3
In a landmark stride towards next-generation railway management, the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway on Friday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Integrated Control Centre (ICC), a technologically advanced command hub designed to transform train operations, passenger services and emergency response through seamless digital integration.
The modern facility was inaugurated by Ved Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager, Ahmedabad Division, who described the new centre as a significant milestone in Indian Railways’ journey towards technology-driven, safe and efficient operations.
Spread across nearly 24,500 square feet, the Integrated Control Centre has been conceived as the central nerve centre of railway management, bringing together multiple operational departments under a single roof to facilitate real-time monitoring, faster decision-making and enhanced coordination.
Addressing officials after the inauguration, Ved Prakash said:”Ahmedabad Division is continuously accelerating the digital transformation of Indian Railways by adopting modern technologies. The Integrated Control Centre is an important milestone towards making railway operations more safe, transparent, accountable and technology-based.”
He added that the facility would ensure round-the-clock monitoring of crowd management, sanitation, safety, security and operational contingencies.
“Better coordination among various departments and quick information sharing will ensure faster decision-making and an effective response to emergencies.”
Designed with the latest digital technologies, the command centre features high-resolution Video Display Unit (VDU) walls that enable real-time surveillance of nearly 1,350 route kilometres of railway infrastructure, allowing controllers to instantly monitor operational situations and initiate timely corrective action.
The Integrated Control Centre consolidates key operational wings, including Freight & Coaching Control, Signal & Telecom (S&T), Engineering, Traction & Crew Management, Railway Protection Force (RPF) Control Room, Disaster Management Cell, and Carriage & Wagon operations, significantly improving inter-departmental coordination.
To further enhance passenger convenience, the centre has also been integrated with the Rail Madad Grievance Redressal System and the National Train Enquiry System (NTES), enabling railway officials to provide passengers with accurate, real-time train information and faster grievance resolution.
The facility will oversee the daily operation of more than 130 passenger trains and over 160 freight trains, ushering in greater precision in train regulation, punctuality and operational planning.
Beyond train movement, the integrated platform will streamline critical functions such as crew deployment, water supply management, parcel operations, rolling stock coordination and passenger interchange, creating a data-driven ecosystem that enhances transparency, accountability and service reliability.
More than just a control building, the Integrated Control Centre has been developed as a modern workplace equipped with advanced operational infrastructure, ergonomic workstations, rest rooms, mini boardrooms and dedicated parking facilities, creating an efficient and comfortable working environment for railway personnel.
Developed with future expansion in mind, the Integrated Control Centre represents one of the most significant technology-driven infrastructure upgrades in the Ahmedabad Division and is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening operational excellence, passenger safety and service delivery as Indian Railways continues its rapid digital transformation.
