Ahmedabad Branch of WIRC of ICAI Chairperson CA Bishan Shah said, “Out of 1,200 students, 550 will be selected to act as model parliamentarians. On Saturday and Sunday, the 7th & 8th of January, 550 Parliamentarians will be discussing various National Issues across 11 different committees and would be preparing a bill which will be a solution paper. Youth Parliament is a platform for debaters to don the hats of parliamentarians from all over the country. This initiative promises to serve as an enriching learning experience for one and all. Most of all this is an extremely important learning experience for students, wherein they understand current affairs, debate techniques, and research skills amongst others, thus giving them a holistic learning experience.”
This three-day conference will see the active participation of over 1,200 students drawn from 52 institutions across 10 cities, including Bengaluru and Varanasi, but majority of them will be from Gujarat, CA Shah added.
Sharing his thoughts on this initiative, Udgam School for Children Executive Director Manan Choksi said, “Present-day youth read only short news shared on the social media and not aware of happenings in the country which are related to them as well as the country. In this Youth Parliament, we impart them simulated training how to participate on various committees, and discuss current affairs legislation. There will be 11 different panels and agendas on which students are going to be debating on. This will be an eye-opener for all future leaders.”
The different panels will take up the following agendas for discussions and arrive at viable solutions.
- Indian Environmental Protection Agency: Conservation and management in accordance with Agenda 21 to achieve sustainable development.
- National Commission for Women: Discussing the Status of Women in the Workplace.
- Rajya Sabha: Discussions on the Extent and Applications of the Weapons of Mass Destructions and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities Bill) 2022.
- Lok Sabha: Discussion on Declaring the Indian Ocean a Zone of Peace and Reviewing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
- All India Political Parties Meet: Discussion & Review of Freedom of Speech & Expression with reference to Freedom of Press.

“All the resolutions and the bills passed at the Youth Parliament will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, the NITI Ayog for their perusal. These bills will serve as a symbol of the changes that young people wish to see in the nation,” Chokshi added.
“The participants will play role of the Parliamentarians and Bureaucrats in various councils of our country such as Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, various PSU, Central agencies etc. which will give them complete insights into the workings of Indian Parliament and Indian Institutions. Chhatra Sansad Youth Parliament is being held in Sardar Patel National Memorial related to India’s freedom struggle as it will give them hands-on training in nation-building with historic touch,” said Jay Joshi, Deputy Conference President, Chhatra Sansad.
