Apollo Hospitals inks BOMA with Imperial Hospital to expand horizon in Bangladesh

In line with the mission to bring healthcare of International standards within the reach of every individual, Imperial Hospital and Apollo Hospitals have signed a Brand licensing, Operations, and Management (BOMA) agreement.

Chennai-based Apollo Hospitals, pioneer in health care service provider in India on Monday announced that it has signed a pact with the Chittagong-based Imperial Hospital Ltd (IHL) to extend modern and high risk medical services to the Bangladesh nationals.

In line with the mission to bring healthcare of International standards within the reach of every individual, Imperial Hospital and Apollo Hospitals have signed a Brand licensing, Operations, and Management (BOMA) agreement.

The agreement signed between the two entities was shared by Founder & Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Dr Pratap C Reddy and Prof Dr Rabiul Husain, Chairman of Imperial Hospital at a press conference in Chennai on Monday.

  • The agreement signed between the two entities was shared by Founder & Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Dr Pratap C Reddy and Prof Dr Rabiul Husain, Chairman of Imperial Hospital at a press conference in Chennai on Monday.
  • About 6,000 patients from Bangladesh are travelling to India annually for treatment and that would considerably come down, once the Apollo Imperial Hospitals started functioning on July 22: Dr Pratap C Reddy
  • The state-of-the-art facility in Chittagong shall have experienced medical staff, clinicians, and administrative staff with the aim to providing outstanding services to patients: Dinesh Madhavan , President, Group Oncology and International, Apollo Hospitals

Announcing the partnership Dr Prathap C Reddy said, “In line with our vision to drive positive change across the world and to touch over a billion lives, we have collaborated with Bangladesh’s Imperial Hospital Limited to provide our finest expertise in the management of their tertiary care hospital in Chittagong. We plan to strengthen the hospital’s presence in the country and create a strong medical unit to attend to patients by building trust. Standing by the patients and creating a healthy ecosystem for patients will be the first responsibility of Apollo – Imperial Hospital in Bangladesh.”

Replying to a query, he said that Apollo’s vision is to expand its reach across the world. As of now, the management is in talks with service providers of few other countries to have tie-up.

He said about 6,000 patients from Bangladesh are travelling to India annually for treatment and that would considerably come down, once the Apollo Imperial Hospitals started functioning on July 22.

Addressing on the occasion, Prof Dr Rabiul Husain, Chairman of Imperial Hospital said, “We are proud to partner with Apollo Hospitals, a global leader in healthcare and a unique integrated healthcare enterprise. Our association with Apollo Hospitals will enhance the healthcare ecosystem and improve the quality of life of patients in Bangladesh. We look forward to having a unified approach in jointly offering superior tertiary care services in the region.”

After signing the agreement, Dinesh Madhavan , President, Group Oncology and International said, “To improve the quality of healthcare in Bangladesh  was the immediate need,  with this vision the 375 bed tertiary care hospital , Imperial Hospitals Ltd was built  with world bank support of over Rs. 1000-crore, this centre of excellence needed an able hospital management partner and choose Apollo Hospitals Ltd, this is an historic day for Indian and Bangladesh health care partnership through Apollo Imperial Hospitals.”

When asked about the cost of treatments offered by Apollo Imperial Hospitals, Dinesh Madhavan said that it would be on fixed cost and also revenue sharing model. Regarding stake-holding with Imperial Hospital, the talks are going on this direction and it would be finalised soon.

Initially, the Apollo Hospitals will provide tertiary/secondary medical care and high risk cases would be transferred to India. Later on, when the facilities/infrastructure improves, the scale of medical services would also be upgraded.

The state-of-the-art facility in Chittagong shall have experienced medical staff, clinicians, and administrative staff with the aim to providing outstanding services to patients. Apollo Hospitals shall manage the day-to-day operations and clinical service delivery, utilizing their clinical and managerial capabilities, perfected over decades. To ensure treatment options with outcomes benchmarked against the best in the world are available to people in Chittagong, and other cities and towns in Bangladesh. Apollo Hospitals team shall conduct regular medical and quality audits to ensure patient safety and the best medical outcomes for all patients visiting Apollo Imperial Hospital, Dinesh Madhavan added.
