“The applications of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies are immense. The Gujarat government is implementing AI for more effective governance. It is great to see Apollo Hospitals taking the lead and harnessing the power of technology to deliver better healthcare services. I wish them the very best,” Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said.

Delivering the welcome speech, Neeraj Lal said, “We at Apollo Hospitals are committed to driving innovation and embracing cutting-edge technologies to redefine precision, patient care, and the future of healthcare in India. The introduction of Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical system is a step in that direction and will allow complex surgical procedures to be performed with greater accuracy.”

Dwelling at the efficacy of robotic surgery, Robotic Uro & Gynec  Cancer Surgeon Dr Swati Shah said, “Given its superior clinical precision, the use of robotics in surgeries has been instrumental in reducing overall hospital stay of patients, enabling faster recovery in most cases. Robotic surgeries have seen maximum application across urological, gynaecology, oncology, orthopaedic and cardiothoracic procedures. Apollo Hospitals has performed 27 robotic surgeries in the last two months in Ahmedabad.”

“The Da Vinci Xi Robotic system will allow Apollo Hospitals to elevate clinical outcomes for patients in need of complex surgeries. It is designed to be used in complex procedures related to Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, General Surgery, Gynecology, and Gastro-Intestinal surgeries. It offers exceptional accuracy, efficiency, and safety. Robotic procedures are a better alternative to open and laparoscopic surgeries offering specific advantages in technically challenging situations,” Dr Swati added.

Compared with traditional surgical methods, robotic surgery is less invasive and makes it possible to navigate even the smallest spaces within the patient’s body, reducing pain and discomfort in patients’ post-surgery. A robotic procedure also lowers the risk of complications such as infections and scarring.

The whole procedure of Robotic surgery involves the doctor sitting on the console with the monitor displaying the surgical area and the robotic arms assisting the doctor for operating. One of the arms holds a high magnification 3D camera which is inserted into the abdomen through one of the key holes and provides a high-definition, magnified (12×), 3-D view of the surgical site. The other mechanical arms have surgical instruments attached to it that are designed to mimic the movement of the human hands and wrists.

In the last two years, the Apollo Group has witnessed an increase of over 400 per cent in the number of robotic-assisted procedures performed across its hospitals in India. With superior clinical precision, the use of robotics in surgeries has been instrumental in reducing the overall hospital stay of patients, lower blood loss, and faster recovery in most cases, besides other benefits.

In his valedictory address, hospital general manager Sandeep Joshi, said, “We have been handholding with the state government in offering best healthcare services as part of our CSR initiatives in Gujarat. Since foreigners get world-class treatment from our experts who are specialised in adopting latest advancements at economical fee they flock to Gujarat, the medical tourism capital of the country. We have also applied for permission to start kidney transplantation.”
