The Indian Army commemorated the Golden Jubilee of Battle of Nagi at Sadhuwali Cantonment at Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan on Monday.Nagi day is remembered as the victory of the Indian Army over Pakistan’s attempt to grab Nagi by breaching the ceasefire in the 1971 war, says a Defence release.

A sense of pride and patriotism filled the air in Sri Ganganagar during the enchanting cultural and musical evening organized by Sadhuwali Cantonment situated in Sudarshan Chakra Division on Monday to mark 50th Anniversary of Battle of Nagi. The curtain was brought down on all ceremonies related to the Nagi Day 2021 with a mesmerizing and poignant evening ‘A Twilight with Brave Hearts’ organized in the presence of War Veterans, Veer Naris, Serving Personnel, Civil Dignitaries, Media Persons & families of Army personnel.

The programme was a feast for the eyes and began with a mesmerizing display of ‘Son-et-Lumiere’ Laser Light show, a multimedia, audio-visual presentation depicting the battle of Nagi. The spectacular show combined with the effects of brilliant light and sound mesmerized the august gathering. Amid soulful classical renditions and foot tapping numbers rendering the air by the Jazz bands, the musical tribute by the talented troops and families of Army treated the audience to a beautiful and soulful journey through contemporary and old songs, depicting and celebrating the national fervour and paying tribute to the brave fallen heroes of Battle of Nagi.
Audience were spellbound by the superlative performance by the Pipe bands of the Forever Victorious Brigade. It was followed by traditional martial art display of Gatka by Sikh soldiers & Khukri dance by Gorkhas of the Indian Army. Nagi Day signifies national integration and the time tested intense bonding of friendship between the people of Sri Ganganagar and Indian Army.
This year India is celebrating Swarnim Vijay Varsh of 50 years of India’s victory in epic 1971 war with traditional fervor all over country. Nagi day symbolizes the day, when on 25/ 26 December 1971, Pakistan had treacherously occupied Indian territory at Nagi, after announcement of the ceasefire on 16 December 1971. Nagi witnessed one of the fiercest battles along the Western Front wherein our Indian Army thwarted Pakistan’s attempt to gain territory. The battle epitomizes the true ethos of Indian Army, wherein 21 Brave Hearts made the supreme sacrifice and defended the honour of the nation, the statement added.
