  • Bhavnagar Para yard to become a stronger operational hub, easing pressure on Bhavnagar Terminus
  • Four loop lines, engine reversal facility and new operational sidings to give Railways greater flexibility
  • New high-level island platform, wider Platform 2 and additional FOB connectivity to improve passenger movement
  • RUBs, signalling, electrical works and upgraded infrastructure to support smoother, faster and more punctual train operations

NE RAILWAY BUREAU

AHMEDABAD, SEPT 1

Bhavnagar’s railway network is set for a significant capacity push, with Indian Railways sanctioning a ₹125-crore remodelling of the Bhavnagar Para yard—a project designed to take operational pressure off Bhavnagar Terminus, reduce rake detention and put the city’s rail infrastructure on a stronger growth trajectory.

The Bhavnagar Para (BVP) Yard Remodeling Project will create additional operational capacity while upgrading passenger facilities at Bhavnagar Para, strengthening the railway infrastructure serving Bhavnagar and its surrounding region.

The project is strategically designed to shift stabling and other operational activities from Bhavnagar Terminus (BVC) to Bhavnagar Para, thereby freeing operational space at the terminus and enabling smoother handling of train movements.

The move is expected to provide greater operational flexibility, reduce rake detention and contribute to improved train punctuality and reliability.

Para yard to take the pressure off Bhavnagar terminus

At the heart of the project is a capacity strategy: move more operational activity to Bhavnagar Para so that Bhavnagar Terminus can function with less congestion.

The remodelling will provide infrastructure required for better stabling and train-handling operations, helping Railways manage train movements more efficiently.

The additional capacity is expected to reduce operational bottlenecks and give railway authorities greater flexibility in scheduling and managing rakes.

For passengers, the intended payoff is straightforward—smoother train operations and fewer delays caused by congestion and rake detention.

Four loop lines, engine reversal facility to power operations

The project includes a substantial package of yard and operational infrastructure.

Among the key components are:

  • Four loop lines
  • One engine reversal line
  • ART and ARME siding
  • Relocation of the Station and Electronic Interlocking (EI) building
  • Associated electrical and signalling works
  • Service buildings and related infrastructure

These facilities will strengthen the yard’s ability to handle train movements and operational requirements while creating additional flexibility for future traffic.

The inclusion of modern signalling and electrical infrastructure will further support efficient and reliable railway operations.

Passengers get a high-level island platform and better connectivity

The ₹125-crore project is not confined to railway operations.

Passenger convenience forms a significant part of the remodelling package, with a new high-level island platform planned at Bhavnagar Para.

The existing Platform No. 2 will also be widened, while pedestrian connectivity will receive a major upgrade through the extension of the existing Foot Over Bridge (FOB) and construction of one new FOB.

The improved infrastructure is expected to make passenger movement between platforms and station facilities easier and safer, particularly as railway traffic and passenger volumes grow.

Two RUBs to strengthen local connectivity

The project also incorporates road infrastructure, including two Road Under Bridges (RUBs)—one new RUB and an extension of an existing RUB.

The RUB works, together with service buildings and associated electrical and signalling infrastructure, will create a more integrated railway environment around Bhavnagar Para.

The combination of yard capacity, passenger infrastructure and road connectivity makes the project considerably broader than a conventional yard upgrade.

A ₹125-crore foundation for Bhavnagar’s next rail growth phase

The Bhavnagar Para Yard Remodeling Project represents a strategic investment in the city’s railway infrastructure at a time when efficient rail connectivity is increasingly important for passenger mobility as well as regional economic activity.

By shifting stabling and operational activities to Bhavnagar Para, the project seeks to decongest Bhavnagar Terminus while creating additional terminal capacity and operational flexibility.

For passengers, the promise is equally tangible: better platforms, improved FOB connectivity and easier station access.

The larger objective is clear—build capacity before congestion becomes a constraint.

Bhavnagar Para is therefore not merely getting a remodelled yard; it is being positioned as a stronger operational arm of Bhavnagar’s railway network.
