BENGALURU, SEPT 2
The battle for India’s ice-cream bowl just got hotter — and Reliance is bringing real dairy cream to the table. With creamy indulgence, familiar formats and an entry price of just ₹10, Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL) has unveiled Bombay Creamery, marking its strategic and dedicated entry into India’s rapidly expanding ice-cream market.
The FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is positioning Bombay Creamery as India’s first accessible premium dairy brand, built around a simple proposition: premium-quality ice cream made with authentic dairy ingredients, while remaining within reach of the mass Indian consumer.
Backed by RCPL’s national distribution infrastructure, expanding retail footprint and consumer insights, the launch represents more than another addition to the company’s FMCG portfolio. It signals a long-term play in a category where consumers are increasingly seeking better taste and quality without having to pay a steep premium.
At the heart of the brand is RCPL’s promise of ‘Global Quality at Affordable Price’. Bombay Creamery’s portfolio is made with real dairy cream, with the company seeking to differentiate its offering through an authentic dairy proposition rather than shortcuts.
‘Dairy shouldn’t need shortcuts’
T Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Products Limited, said, “We built Bombay Creamery around one simple idea that dairy shouldn’t need shortcuts. RCPL is not just entering the ice cream category — we’re committing to it. Made with real dairy cream, Bombay Creamery guarantees the promise of genuine taste of a real ice cream every single time, at a price every Indian family can afford.”
The new range spans a wide variety of formats designed to cater to different consumption occasions, including cones, cups, tubs, bars and sticks, with prices starting at ₹10.
The launch will initially focus on Western India, giving RCPL a regional springboard before Bombay Creamery is rolled out across the country. The planned pan-India expansion could give the brand access to Reliance’s formidable distribution and retail ecosystem as it takes on established players in the competitive ice-cream segment.
From ₹10 to a national scoop
The entry of Bombay Creamery adds another high-profile challenger to India’s increasingly crowded ice-cream market, where affordability, product quality, distribution reach and brand differentiation are becoming critical battlegrounds.
For RCPL, the strategy appears clear: combine real dairy ingredients with accessible pricing and massive retail reach to make premium ice cream less of an occasional indulgence and more of an everyday treat.
With its first scoops landing in Western India, Bombay Creamery is now set for a much bigger test — whether Reliance’s scale can turn ‘real cream at an affordable price’ into a nationwide consumer habit.
