In a decisive stride towards technological self-reliance, IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation and Sarvam AI have forged a strategic partnership to build sovereign AI solutions tailored for India’s unique needs—from language diversity to data security.

At a time when India’s AI ambitions are accelerating, the collaboration seeks to create homegrown, production-grade AI systems that are not only globally competitive but deeply rooted in Indian contexts, languages and infrastructure.

  • Strategic MoU aims to power India’s AI self-reliance with homegrown models and infrastructure
  • Partnership to deliver multilingual, culturally contextual AI for governance, defence, BFSI and healthcare
  • Blending IIT Madras research depth with Sarvam’s frontier AI capabilities for population-scale impact
  • Focus on data sovereignty, Indian languages and secure deployment drives next-gen digital transformation

The alliance brings together Sarvam AI’s expertise in developing multilingual foundational models, conversational AI and speech technologies, with IITM Pravartak’s strengths in AI engineering, systems integration and large-scale deployment.

Together, they aim to co-develop cutting-edge solutions across sectors including public administration, defence, financial services and healthcare—unlocking the potential of AI powered by Indian data and designed for Indian realities.

Elaborating on the vision, Dr. M. J. Shankar Raman, CEO, IITM Pravartak, said: “To accelerate indigenous AI capabilities, IITM Pravartak is proud to announce a strategic partnership with Sarvam AI to co-create advanced, domain-specific AI solutions. This collaboration synergises our rigorous algorithmic research with their secure, locally-hosted infrastructure to deploy bespoke, culturally contextualised models for critical sectors across India. Together, we are committed to building highly secure AI technologies that ensure complete data sovereignty and actively drive the nation’s digital transformation forward.”

Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Pratyush Kumar, Co-Founder, Sarvam AI, added: “We are excited to partner with IITM Pravartak. Sarvam brings frontier AI models and products with a focus on being state-of-the-art globally. IITM Pravartak has been building technology for national interest and institutional depth. Together, we look forward to delivering AI solutions truly built for India and available for population-scale impact.”

Operating at the intersection of academic excellence and real-world deployment, IIT Madras Research Park-backed IITM Pravartak is uniquely positioned to translate advanced AI research into impactful applications for citizens, enterprises and government.

The MoU lays the foundation for a long-term collaboration aligned with India’s vision of a digitally empowered, AI-driven economy, where innovation is not imported—but built, scaled and secured within the country.
