The coronavirus tally in Gujarat rose to 1,59,726 after 1,091 new cases were detected on Sunday, the state health department said.
Nine patients succumbed to the infection across the state during the day, which took the death toll to 3,638, it said.
The number of patients discharged on Sunday was 1,233, which was more than the new infection cases. With this, the recovery count mounted to 1,41,652, the department said in its release.
The state”s recovery rate has now improved to 88.68 percent, it added.
A total of 52,141 tests were conducted in the state in the last 24 hours, which pushed the overall tally of tests to 53,74,249.
Gujarat’s COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 1,59,726, new cases 1,091, death toll 3,638, discharged 1,41,652, active cases 14,436 and people tested so far 53,74,249.

Surat tally nears 33k mark, deaths close to 1,000
Surat’s COVID-19 tally on Sunday rose to 32,952 with the addition of 239 new cases, the highest in the state, while 270 people were discharged during the day, a health official said.
Two deaths took the toll to 991, he added.
Surat city reported 173 new cases and saw 177 people getting discharged, while these figures for the rural part of the district were 66 and 93 respectively.
The Surat Municipal Corporation on Sunday said the recovery rate in areas under it was 91.90 percent, as 22,646 persons have been discharged so far.
Athwa has 4,559 cases, the highest, followed by Katargam with 4,235, the SMC said, adding that 609 persons were admitted in hospitals for the ailment, while the bed capacity stood at 3,046.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka leads the cases and deaths tally with 1,779 and 88 respectively. Choryasi has 1,725 cases and Bardoli 1,562.

183 new cases, 190 discharged, 5 deaths in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad district reported 183 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, taking its infection tally to 40,210, while five deaths, including four within city limits, took the toll to 1,889, an official said.
He said 190 people were discharged during the day, with both urban and rural areas of the district having more people walk out of hospitals than in, taking the overall count of such cases to 34,840.
The city reported 167 new cases and saw 172 people getting discharged, while these figures for the rural part were 16 and 18 respectively.
After a review, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation was left with 107 micro containment areas as it removed six areas from the list and added seven new ones.
The AMC’s COVID-19 bulletin issued on Sunday afternoon said the north-west zone, with 525 cases, had overtaken the west zone’s 521, while central zone has the lowest number of active cases at 301.
