As the country is celebrating the 75th anniversary of Independence, various initiatives were undertaken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to commemorate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
One such effort has been the production of a mega serial by Doordarshan called ‘Swaraj – Bharat Ke Swatantrata Sangram Ki Samagra Gatha’ which highlights the journey of the country towards obtaining Swaraj.
The serial will be telecasted in Tamil in High Definition technology from August 20 on all Saturdays for 75 weeks at 8:00 pm in Doordarshan’s Podhigai channel.

- Tamil Nadu Guv to release commemorative postage stamp on Ondiveeran on Saturday
- An exclusive photo exhibition on freedom fighters will be organised for 10 days in Palayamkottai by the Central Bureau of Communication, Chennai.
The programme will be re-telecasted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3:00 pm., 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm respectively.
Addressing a press conference in Chennai Doordarshan station, Additional Director General of Press Information Bureau, Chennai M Annadurai, said, “The life history of 75 unsung heroes of Indian freedom movement from across the country will be depicted through the 75 week long TV serial. The life journey of freedom fighters from Tamilnadu, including Velu Nachiyar, Pulithevan, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, will also be part of the serial.”.
During his address Rafique Basha, Head of Programme, Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai said the channel has plans to come up with an exclusive TV serial highlighting the contribution of Tamilnadu in freedom movement which will be telecasted very soon.
Director, DD News, Chennai B Gurubabu said DD News, Chennai is planning to conduct various programmes to mark the completion of 75th year of Independence.
Doordarshan’s YouTube channel maybe accessed to witness programmes related to freedom movement and other important historical events, stated Krishnadas, Deputy Director General (Engg) and Head of Office, Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Guv to release commemorative postage stamp on Ondiveeran
Annadurai also announced that a commemorative postage stamp on Indian freedom fighter Ondiveeran will be released at a function in Tirunelveli’s Palayamkottai on Saturday, August 20 by Tamil NaduGovernor RN Ravi. It will be received by Governor of Telangana and Lt Governor of Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan.

He also informed that Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment A Narayanaswamy and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Dairy and Animal Husbandry Dr L Murugan, State Tourism Minister M Madhivendhan and other dignitaries will participate in the event.
